Departing from traditional enclosed room models, the design features a circulation system of shaded pathways, courtyards, and framed views. Architect Hemanth emphasizes creating continuous interaction between natural landscape and architecture through this weekend retreat's innovative layout. ## Site Planning The U-shaped main block incorporates existing trees in its staggered configuration, with a linear swimming pool embedded in the sloping terrain. Semi-open living spaces connect to the entrance, while open-plan living, dining, kitchen, and worship areas command views of the pool. This thoughtful arrangement maintains harmony between built and natural environments throughout the property. ## Private Bedroom Pavilions Three bedroom units float as independent volumes around the main block, each featuring private verandas that appear suspended due to the site's slope. Deep-overhang sheltered decks and courtyards link these bedrooms to central areas. Hemanth describes the journey to bedrooms as a deliberate sequence of spatial compression and release, transforming simple circulation into an experiential passage. ## Material Innovation Excavated soil mixed with lime, cement, and aggregates forms the poured-earth walls punctuated by large glass openings. An inverted beam system creates cantilevered roofs extending over decks and courtyards. The earthy material palette continues throughout interiors to preserve indoor-outdoor continuity, while leather-finished kota stone flooring transitions to river-bed granite in semi-open spaces. ## Interior Details Woven upholstery on wooden furniture complements jute rugs and locally sourced decorative objects throughout the farmhouse. Each bedroom's private veranda offers immersive nature experiences, with careful material selections creating understated elegance. The design demonstrates how regional craftsmanship can elevate contemporary farmhouse living through thoughtful detailing and textural richness. ## Dual Functionality Aalok Farmhouse serves dual purposes as both family retreat and business meeting venue. The design carefully balances privacy needs with spaces for collective interaction, rejecting conventional enclosed room arrangements. This functional versatility informs spatial organization, creating areas that adapt seamlessly between personal relaxation and professional gatherings without compromising architectural coherence. ## Environmental Integration The project exemplifies sustainable architecture through on-site material reuse, passive design strategies, and natural ventilation systems. Nodecraft Studio's approach minimizes environmental impact while redefining modern farmhouse concepts. By working with rather than against the landscape, the design achieves remarkable energy efficiency and establishes new benchmarks for eco-conscious residential architecture in India's developing regions. ## Architectural Significance Founded in 2023, Nodecraft Studio establishes its position in India's contemporary architecture scene through this project. Blending traditional techniques with modern aesthetics, the design sets precedents for weekend homes across the region. International features in platforms like Dezeen highlight its global relevance, showcasing how regional practices can contribute meaningfully to worldwide architectural discourse through context-sensitive innovation. ## Sources covering this story - https://www.dezeen.com/2026/08/28/nodecraft-studio-designs-poured-earth-farmhouse/ — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
