However, supply chain issues and AI demand keep the launch date uncertain. New models are predicted to focus heavily on AI and graphics performance. ## Design and Size The compact 5x5 inch design introduced in 2024 is likely to remain. As with the M4 generation, the small form factor combined with high performance makes the Mac mini an attractive option. ## Pricing Expectations With Apple discontinuing the $599 base model, the new Mac mini may start at $699-$799. Prices could increase further depending on storage and configuration options. ## Chip Updates The base model is planned to feature the M6 chip, while the high-end version will get the M5 Pro. Reports suggest Apple has halted M6 Pro/Max development to focus on M7 instead. ## AI-Focused Improvements The new chips are expected to bring significant advances in machine learning and neural processing. This could make it a more powerful platform for local AI workloads. ## Memory and Storage The base model may come with 16GB unified memory, while the M5 Pro version could start at 24GB. With the 256GB model discontinued, 512GB SSD might become the new standard. ## Connectivity Features Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) and Bluetooth 6 support are rumored. While keeping the compact design, Apple may improve connectivity technologies. ## Supply Chain Issues Memory chip shortages and component constraints are causing production delays. CEO Tim Cook stated these issues might persist for several months. ## Market Impacts Current supply problems have led to some high-memory configurations selling out completely. Delivery times have significantly extended in many regions. ## Target Audience Growing in popularity among developers and AI enthusiasts, the Mac mini offers an affordable platform for local LLM development, contributing to increased demand. ## Conclusion Apple is expected to update the Mac mini lineup by late 2026. With AI-focused improvements and performance boosts, it seems poised to remain an attractive option for developers. ## Sources covering this story - https://www.macworld.com/article/2964754/2026-mac-mini-m5-pro-design-specs-release-date.html — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
