Designed by Peter Morris Architects, this three-storey structure comprises two adjoining homes. Its sculptural appearance and playful curves create a distinct visual rhythm that challenges the traditional aesthetic of the surrounding London residential streetscape. ## Miami Art Deco Influence The project draws significant inspiration from the pastel-colored Art Deco buildings of Miami, which left a lasting impression on architect Peter Morris and producer Emily Kennedy during their honeymoon. Additionally, Morris incorporated subtle references to the dramatic arches of the nearby St Martin’s Church, effectively bridging international design influences with local neighborhood character. ## Construction and Materiality Despite its fantastical appearance, the building utilizes conventional construction methods including structural steel and blockwork. The signature decorative arches are crafted from dense, recyclable Build Lite polystyrene. These lightweight elements are coated with a waterproof, textured finish, allowing them to blend seamlessly into the vibrant pink exterior while maintaining structural integrity. ## Interior Design Philosophy Inside the 133-square-meter residence occupied by the architects, color remains a central theme. The ground floor features a three-meter-long pale pink island, green-and-white striped cabinetry, and turquoise epoxy flooring. These elements extend the animated exterior aesthetic into the living space, creating a cohesive and highly personalized environment that reflects the owners' creative vision. ## Functional Spatial Layout The property includes a second, larger residence spanning 165 square meters with four bedrooms across lower levels. This unit features barrel-vaulted ceilings that echo the exterior curves. While the architects' own home is highly colorful, this larger residence was delivered as a blank canvas, allowing future owners to personalize the space according to their preferences. ## Unique Architectural Features The design includes a four-meter-long turquoise skylight that leads toward a private rooftop terrace. This outdoor area is enclosed by pink arched walls and features a dedicated outdoor bathtub. These unconventional spatial choices transform standard residential elements into playful gestures, providing a private escape that feels magical above the busy city streets. ## Media Exposure and Reception Cloud House gained significant public attention following its appearance on the television program Grand Designs in September 2026. The project has elicited a spectrum of reactions, ranging from admiration for its bold personality to criticism regarding its unconventional form. This discourse highlights the impact of architecture that intentionally departs from traditional residential design norms. ## Impact on Urban Landscape The project demonstrates how distinct architectural personality can transform an everyday street into a point of curiosity. By turning ordinary building elements into sculptural expressions, the architects have successfully sparked public engagement. The house serves as a reminder that residential design can prioritize joy and wonder, leaving passersby to contemplate the possibilities behind its walls. ## Sources covering this story - https://www.yankodesign.com/2026/11/01/a-candy-colored-house-with-giant-arches-is-turning-heads-on-a-london-street/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=a-candy-colored-house-with-giant-arches-is-turning-heads-on-a-london-street — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
