1Phone Achieves Desktop Performance

The Nubia Z70 Ultra phone features a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and 24GB RAM. Designer ntsow relocated the screen to a custom acrylic case and added desktop-grade coolers directly contacting the CPU. This modification eliminates thermal throttling, enabling sustained high performance. The cooling solution allows the phone to handle workloads typically reserved for desktop computers.

2Hardware and Software Modifications

The modified phone runs XFCE Linux desktop through Termux, with Windows application support via Wine and Box64 layers. The system functions simultaneously as an Android phone, Linux workstation, and Windows gaming machine. An external power bank supplies energy. This hybrid system aims to fulfill all computing needs in a single device.

3Benchmark Results Surprise

In 3DMark's Wild Life Extreme Stress Test, the modified phone maintained 99% stability across 20 loops. This performance surpassed newer Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, Apple A19 Pro, and Dimensity 9500 chips in consistency metrics. While regular phones achieve temporary high scores, this modification sustains performance under continuous load.

4The Witcher 3 at Ultra Settings

The modified phone runs The Witcher 3 at 1080p Ultra graphics settings, achieving 20-30 fps, occasionally exceeding 30 fps in maximum-performance overclocking mode. The Adreno GPU reaches 99% utilization during gaming sessions. External monitor with keyboard and mouse support provides a genuine desktop gaming experience.

5Importance of Cooling

The project demonstrates that the performance gap between phones and desktops largely stems from cooling systems. With adequate cooling, the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip can continuously handle desktop-class workloads. This revelation highlights the potential of mobile hardware when thermal limitations are addressed.

6Future Technology

Rather than questioning whether phones can replace PCs, the project shows mobile hardware already possesses the capability. The remaining challenge lies in developing proper cooling solutions. Such modifications provide insights into the future evolution of mobile devices and their computing potential.

7Design Details

The modification uses copper coolers making direct contact with the processor's metal shielding. Relocating the screen outside the case enabled direct cooling access. The acrylic case was optimized for both weight and heat dissipation. The system was designed as a completely self-contained unit, demonstrating innovative engineering solutions.

8Mobile Hardware Potential

This project proves how powerful modern phone hardware can perform under optimal conditions. As cooling solutions advance, phones may increasingly take on desktop computer functions. This evolution could significantly disrupt the personal computer market, changing how we think about mobile computing capabilities.
