Andrew King's Modal Inline Switch project challenges this perception. The designer brings a thoughtful approach to this everyday overlooked element. ## Quality in Materials and Manufacturing The project uses CNC-machined aluminum housing for durability and premium feel. Its low, rounded form sits naturally along the cord and stays put on surfaces. This approach offers both aesthetic and functional advantages. ## User Experience Focused Details The latching push-button sits flush within the body, providing a clean, consistent press. Internal guides prevent side-to-side play while the two-part construction simplifies assembly. Details like weight and button travel were refined through iteration. ## Manufacturing Influencing Design Modal's form is shaped by how it's made and used, reflecting core industrial design principles. The result is a product that benefits both manufacturers and users, demonstrating thoughtful product development. ## Finishing Options and Aesthetics The switch comes with bead-blasted finishes and clear, black, or blue anodization options. These details allow the switch to complement various interior designs while offering personalization possibilities. ## The Project's Industry Impact This project demonstrates the value of design-focused approaches to mundane components. It reminds us how every product detail affects user experience, serving as an inspiring example of how industrial design can improve our daily lives. ## Sources covering this story - https://www.core77.com/posts/144715/Rethinking-Cheapie-Inline-Lamp-Switches — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
