This method supports the growing trend that biometric authentication will replace passwords in the future. ## How Selfie Video Works Users record selfie videos by looking at their device’s camera and completing specific head movements. These videos are then used to access the account, with Google comparing the recorded video for identity verification. ## Security Measures Google uses multi-layered security measures to protect selfie videos from fake photos and videos. It requires simple movements to prove it’s a live video and detects suspicious sign-in attempts. ## Precaution Against AI-Generated Videos As AI-generated videos become more convincing, 'liveness' checks are becoming a basic requirement for companies handling logins, payments, or sensitive data. ## User Privacy and Biometric Data While the new option can protect accounts against fraud and help recover locked accounts, it also raises concerns about user privacy and biometric data collection. ## Data Security and Deletion Option Google states that selfie videos are securely stored using encryption and remain protected even when not in use. Users can delete the videos from their Google accounts at any time. ## Sources covering this story - https://techcrunch.com/2026/07/23/google-will-now-let-you-sign-in-to-your-account-with-a-selfie-video/ — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
