This came after DHS ordered a pause on such operations. Trump emphasized that these stops are crucial for crime fighting. ## DHS's Decision The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) temporarily halted ICE's traffic stops. The decision followed two deadly incidents involving ICE officers in Maine and Texas within a week. The pause aims to review operational protocols. ## Trump's Reaction Trump criticized DHS's decision, saying ending traffic stops would play into criminals' hands. On Truth Social, he praised ICE agents, calling their work essential and deserving of respect. ## ICE's Role ICE is a federal agency responsible for enforcing immigration laws. Traffic stops are a common method for apprehending undocumented immigrants. However, recent events have raised concerns about the risks involved. ## Homan's Statement Former ICE director Tom Homan clarified that DHS's decision is temporary and not a policy change. He noted the decision was made by ICE leadership and the Homeland Security Secretary. ## Impact and Implications Trump's remarks have intensified debates over immigration policies. The future of ICE operations remains a contentious issue, balancing security and human rights concerns.
