1Inauguration and Operational Launch

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 23.2-km Pune Metro Line 3 on November 3. Passenger services on this elevated corridor, known as the Pink Line, commence at 6 am on November 4. The ceremony takes place at the Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, marking a significant milestone for Pune's urban transit infrastructure.

2Strategic Financial Partnership Model

The project represents a total investment of ₹8,313 crore, covering land acquisition and utility relocation costs. It is the first metro project in India implemented under the design, build, finance, operate, and transfer framework. This model aligns with the National Metro Rail Policy of 2017 to ensure sustainable long-term infrastructure development.

3Phased Station Deployment Strategy

The corridor features 23 stations, with 17 opening initially to the public. Seven stations will operate with one staircase, while 10 will have full access. Construction for the remaining six stations is scheduled for completion in phases, with two finishing by November 2026 and four by January 2027 to ensure operational readiness.

4Frequency and Service Timings

Trains will operate at six-minute intervals during peak hours and 12-minute intervals during non-peak periods. The final service from Maan departs at 10.30 pm, while the last train from the opposite direction leaves at 11.40 pm. These timings are designed to accommodate the daily commute of the Hinjewadi IT Park workforce.

5Intermodal Connectivity and Integration

At the District Court station, Line 3 integrates with MahaMetro's Line 1 and Line 2. Commuters can use a unified mobile application for ticketing across the entire network. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority is also facilitating last-mile connectivity through PMPML buses, auto-rickshaws, app-based taxis, and e-bikes at all major transit points.

6Safety and Security Protocols

The corridor received final safety clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety on September 23 following a phased inspection process. To ensure passenger safety, approximately 350 security personnel have been deployed across the stations. These measures are critical for managing the expected daily ridership of 200,000 to 250,000 commuters across the city.

7Sustainability and Urban Planning

The project incorporates 7.60 MW of solar power capacity, projected to meet 30% of the corridor's electricity requirements. Urban planning efforts include wider footpaths, dedicated cycle tracks, and pedestrian crossings. These features aim to enhance accessibility and promote eco-friendly commuting options for residents in Aundh, Baner, Balewadi, and the surrounding areas.

8Impact on Regional Congestion

This infrastructure development is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion across major corridors like Ganeshkhind Road and Shivajinagar. By connecting key residential and commercial hubs, the metro provides a reliable alternative to road transport. The project serves as a model for future urban transit expansions in rapidly growing Indian metropolitan regions.
