TP-LINK LXD: KPF's Iconic Office Design in Shenzhen

Office complex transforming movement into social and ecological space with 1km continuous landscape

ArchDaily Global2 min

1Project Scope

The TP-LINK LXD project rises in Shenzhen as a 124,600 m² office complex. Designed by KPF, the structure offers an approach that radically changes traditional office circulation. The project creates a one-kilometer continuous landscape by elevating the ground plane to wrap around three buildings. This design aims to transform movement into shared social and ecological spaces.

2Design Team

The team led by Marianne Kwok and John Winkler includes experienced professionals like Forth Bagley and Florence Chan. The 15-member design team offers expertise across an international spectrum from Daniel Akinsulire to Dongbai Song. The team aims to set new standards in office architecture. Project photographs were taken by StudioSZ Photo and Justin Szeremeta.

3Architectural Innovation

The project's most striking feature is its 'habitable ground' concept. This approach transforms circulation areas from mere transition points. By elevating the ground floor to envelop the buildings, it creates continuous interactive spaces for employees. The design successfully establishes a unique balance between office life and natural environment. Scheduled for completion in 2026, the project has already made waves in architecture circles.

4Landscape Integration

The one-kilometer continuous landscape organically connects three main buildings. This design ensures employees remain in touch with nature throughout the day. Landscape areas were planned not just visually but functionally. Meeting areas, rest points and social interaction spaces were integrated into this continuous circulation path. The project offers a new ecological approach to office architecture.

5Sustainable Features

TP-LINK LXD aims for LEED certification. The building envelope was designed to maximize energy efficiency. Rainwater collection systems and use of local vegetation reduce the project's ecological footprint. Natural ventilation systems will reduce energy consumption by up to 30%. The project will significantly contribute to Shenzhen's sustainable development goals.

6Urban Integration

The complex is located in Shenzhen's rapidly developing business district. The design was developed to harmonize with the urban fabric. Building height and mass organization are in harmony with surrounding structures. The project also offers easy access to nearby public transportation lines. These features strengthen the connection between office workers and the city.

7Technological Integration

TP-LINK LXD is equipped with smart building technologies. IoT-based systems will optimize energy management. AI-powered office management tools will be used to enhance employee experience. The building was designed to be fully compatible with 5G infrastructure. This technological foundation was planned to meet future office needs.

8Architectural Impact

KPF's project represents a new era in office architecture. It offers a radical departure from the traditional tower office model. The project combines employee wellbeing with ecological sensitivity. When completed in 2026, it will be one of Asia's most innovative office projects. TP-LINK LXD also demonstrates China's growing influence on the global architecture scene.
