1New Proximity Alert Feature

Google is rolling out a Notify when left behind feature for Bluetooth trackers within the Android Find Hub network. This update sends an immediate notification to your smartphone if you move away from a tagged item. It specifically targets personal belongings like wallets, keys, or bags that utilize compatible Bluetooth tracking hardware.

2Implementation and Device Compatibility

The feature is currently available for specific Bluetooth trackers, including Chipolo devices and the Moto Tag. Users must be running version 3.1.787-06 of the Find Hub application to access these settings. Currently, the functionality is restricted to these tags and does not extend to other hardware categories like wireless headphones or earbuds.

3Configuring the Notification Settings

To activate the alert, users must open the Find Hub app, select their specific tracker, and tap the settings gear icon located in the top-right corner. Within this menu, the Notify when left behind section allows users to toggle the alert, ensuring they are notified whenever the tag is separated from their phone.

4Home Address Exception Logic

The system includes a default exception for your saved Home address, which is pulled directly from your Google Account and Maps data. This prevents unnecessary alerts while you are at home, where items are frequently left in different rooms. This logic ensures that notifications only trigger when you are truly away from home.

5Parity With Competitor Ecosystems

Apple has provided similar left-behind alerts through its Find My network for several years. By introducing this capability, Google is closing a significant feature gap for Android users. While the functionality is new to the Android ecosystem, it represents a standard expectation for modern Bluetooth tracking networks and personal item management tools.

6Evolution of Find Hub

Google revamped the Find Hub interface last year to consolidate tracking for devices, people, and Bluetooth tags in one location. This latest update follows a preview mentioned in October. The integration of these alerts is part of a broader effort to improve the utility of the network for everyday item tracking.

7Upcoming Registration and NFC Features

Beyond proximity alerts, Google is introducing a new registration flow for devices, allowing users to set category icons like luggage or bikes. Furthermore, upcoming NFC support will enable users to quickly access tag details or identify lost items by tapping the tracker with a phone, simplifying the management of multiple tagged assets.

8Future Expansion Potential

While the current rollout is limited to specific Bluetooth trackers, there is potential for Google to expand support to additional device categories in the future. As the Find Hub network matures, the integration of these smart alerts provides a more robust safety net for users prone to misplacing their essential personal belongings.
