Redmi Note 17 Pro Max Review: Battery and Durability Stand Out
A durable phone with exceptional battery life but lags in performance and camera.
1Premium price jump
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max is priced at ₹49,999, around ₹10,000 more than its predecessor. This positions it against competitors like the OnePlus Nord 6, Poco X8 Pro Max, and Motorola Edge 70 Pro. Despite the higher price, the phone struggles to match the performance and camera capabilities of these rivals, making its value proposition questionable in this competitive segment.
2Impressive battery innovation
The Pro Max features a 10,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery, the largest Xiaomi has ever used in a smartphone. Despite its massive capacity, the phone maintains a slim 8.57mm profile using high-strength fiberglass. Redmi claims over four days of light usage, supported by TÜV SÜD 5-Star certification guaranteeing 80% capacity retention after 1,600 charge cycles.
3Unmatched durability features
The device boasts Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and multiple IP ratings (IP66, IP68, IP69, IP69K), along with SGS Premium 5-Star certification for three-meter drops. Redmi's Titan Structure promises 10x the impact resistance of previous generations. These features make it one of the most durable phones in its class, appealing to users who prioritize device longevity.
4Display quality
The 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display offers 120Hz AdaptiveSync refresh rate, 12-bit color (68.7 billion shades), Dolby Vision, and HDR10+. With peak brightness of 3500 nits and 3840Hz PWM dimming, it's excellent for streaming and gaming. However, competitors like Nothing Phone 4a Pro and Motorola Edge 70 Pro offer higher peak brightness (5000-5200 nits).
5Long-term software commitment
Running Android 16 with HyperOS 3, Redmi promises four years of Android updates and six years of security updates, extending support until 2032. This is a significant advantage for long-term users. HyperOS introduces AI features like AI Interpreter and Speech Recognition, plus device-to-device messaging without cellular networks through Xiaomi Offline Communication.
6Underwhelming performance
Powered by Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 (4nm), the phone scores 898 (single-core) and 2798 (multi-core) in Geekbench, significantly lower than rivals. The OnePlus Nord 6 scores 2073/6506, while Poco X8 Pro Max reaches 2595/8205. Despite LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage, the performance gap is too substantial to ignore at this price point.
7Camera limitations
The 50MP main camera with OIS/EIS produces good daylight images with accurate colors, but lacks detail in textures compared to competitors. The 8MP ultra-wide shows noticeable detail drop, and night photography appears hazy. While the 32MP selfie camera is an upgrade, the package lacks flexibility without a telephoto lens or higher-resolution ultra-wide sensor.
8Fast charging capabilities
The 100W HyperCharge charges 36% in 20 minutes and fully charges the 10,000 mAh battery in 70 minutes. It supports 27W wired reverse charging and bypass charging for gaming. While impressive, competitors like OnePlus Nord 6 and Poco X8 Pro Max have 9000mAh batteries, making Redmi's advantage less pronounced than the capacity difference suggests.
9Niche appeal
The Pro Max excels in battery life and durability but falls short in performance and camera quality compared to similarly priced rivals. Its strengths cater to users prioritizing endurance over raw power, but at ₹49,999, most buyers expect a more balanced package. The phone struggles to justify its premium over competitors offering better performance for less money.
