Apple opens first permanent music venue in London's Battersea Power Station
600-seat Apple Music Hall blends industrial heritage with cutting-edge production capabilities
1Apple's first permanent venue
Apple has unveiled its first dedicated live music space, the 600-seat Apple Music Hall, located within London's iconic Battersea Power Station. The venue sits alongside Apple's European headquarters in the renovated power station. Designed by Apple's in-house team led by VP Kristina Raspe, it marks the company's first permanent performance space after years of temporary event setups.
2Industrial design heritage
The venue's aesthetic directly references the power station's industrial architecture, with exposed structural steel joists and brick walls. Four illuminated art deco arches span the space, echoing the original Giles Gilbert Scott design. Bronze balconies between the arches create box-like viewing areas. This design preserves the building's heritage while creating a distinctive Apple-branded experience.
3Flexible performance space
The 11.5-meter-wide stage can be configured for seated, standing, or mixed audience arrangements. A 48-speaker spatial audio system provides immersive sound, while 16 hardwired cameras enable simultaneous performance capture. This technical setup allows artists to record Spatial Audio tracks, broadcast mixes, and multi-camera video from a single live show.
4Integrated production facilities
Adjacent to the main hall, Apple has built professional recording and mix studios, creating a complete production ecosystem. The venue also houses Apple Music Radio's new broadcast facilities, relocating the station into the power station complex. This integration of performance and production spaces reflects Apple's content creation strategy.
5Part of wider development
The music venue complements Apple's Foster + Partners-designed European HQ in the power station's center. The 2022 WilkinsonEyre renovation transformed the derelict building into a mixed-use complex with offices, apartments, retail, and now cultural spaces. An Apple Store already occupies part of the former turbine halls, making this Apple's second branded space in the development.
6Creative control for artists
Apple emphasizes the venue's ability to give performers unprecedented creative control, from flexible staging to integrated recording. The company positions this as a unique offering in the live music space, where artists can simultaneously create content for digital distribution while performing for live audiences.
7Brand experience strategy
The venue extends Apple's physical brand presence beyond retail into cultural spaces, following similar moves by other tech giants. By combining performance, production, and broadcasting in one location, Apple creates multiple touchpoints for both artists and audiences within its ecosystem.
8Cultural regeneration impact
The project represents how major corporations are driving urban regeneration through cultural investments. Apple's involvement in Battersea continues the power station's transformation from industrial relic to mixed-use destination, while giving the company a prestigious London flagship for its music initiatives.
