The device features an Intel Core Ultra 5 125H processor, 16 GB of memory, and a 512 GB SSD. Measuring 10.04 by 7.48 inches, the aluminum frame lacks a display, relying on external tablets or monitors for visual output. ## Connectivity and Input Mechanics The system utilizes a standard USB-C cable for wired video transmission from the keyboard to the display. Touch and stylus inputs are processed separately via Bluetooth Low Energy. The companion app supports iPadOS 17 and Android 7 or later, though iPhone users must currently rely on third-party alternatives like Duet for similar functionality. ## Dual-Mode Operational Flexibility Users can toggle between the integrated Windows 11 environment and a standard Bluetooth keyboard mode. This allows the hardware to serve as a peripheral for tablet-native applications when the internal PC is powered off. This dual functionality aims to reduce the need for carrying multiple keyboards when switching between different operating system environments. ## Portability and Power Constraints The unit weighs approximately 1.59 pounds, excluding the tablet and accessories. Hero Devices promises up to nine hours of battery life and includes a 100-watt USB-C charger. However, users must manage power consumption for both the keyboard PC and the external tablet, as the tablet's own battery remains a separate, independent factor. ## Desktop Integration Capabilities At a desk, the device can connect to a compatible USB-C monitor, which provides both video output and power through a single cable. This setup allows the keyboard to function as a standalone desktop computer, ensuring that files and applications remain accessible without requiring a secondary PC to continue work sessions. ## Pricing and Market Availability The Founders Edition is currently listed for preorder at $999 in the United States and Canada. Initial shipments are scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026. An optional $50 Sidekick case is available, which provides a dedicated housing for the keyboard and an 11-inch iPad while functioning as a tablet stand. ## Strategic Design Considerations By removing the display hinge and lid, the design prioritizes a compact footprint at the expense of a self-contained laptop experience. The Midnight Merlot aluminum enclosure features rounded corners and black keys. The absence of a dedicated number pad reflects the focus on portability over traditional desktop-style input layouts for professional users. ## Market Positioning Analysis The product targets users who already own compatible high-quality screens and require Windows-specific applications on the go. Its success depends on the user's willingness to manage cables and software dependencies. This niche approach challenges the traditional laptop form factor by decoupling the computing engine from the display, offering a modular alternative. ## Sources covering this story - https://www.yankodesign.com/2026/11/02/hero-keyboard-packs-a-windows-11-pc-and-borrows-your-tablets-screen/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=hero-keyboard-packs-a-windows-11-pc-and-borrows-your-tablets-screen — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
