While sharing a name with the 1989 film, this release is not a direct adaptation. It introduces new strategic depth to the 4X tabletop experience, allowing players to explore and conquer the galaxy. ## Playable Factions Added The expansion introduces three significant civilizations previously exclusive to Gamefound backers: the Gorn, the Tholians, and the Terran Empire. These factions originate from various corners of the franchise, including the iconic Mirror Universe. Integrating these groups offers players expanded tactical possibilities and new ways to engage with the established game mechanics. ## Physical Component Scale This release is substantial, featuring over 400 cards, 90 plastic ships, 45 system disks, and 13 dice. It also includes resource nodes, fleet markers, updated rulebooks, and a dedicated campaign book. To manage these numerous components, the package includes a custom storage solution designed specifically to accommodate the game's massive collection of pieces. ## Crowdfunding Success Story The project achieved significant financial backing through Gamefound, raising over $3 million from the community. Despite experiencing original release timeline delays, production is now nearing completion according to an October 5, 2026 update. The developer is currently preparing for shipping to distribution centers to fulfill orders for the many project backers. ## Retail and Pricing Pre-orders are currently open through Zatu Games, with the expansion priced at approximately $138 USD. For those new to the system, the publisher is offering additional bundles that include the original civilizations or the complete collection of existing expansions. This approach ensures both veterans and newcomers can access the full game. ## Franchise Milestone Context The release coincides with the 60th anniversary of the Star Trek franchise, which began with the original television series in 1966. Over six decades, the brand has expanded through numerous movies, spin-offs, and interactive media. This board game expansion serves as a commemorative addition to the extensive legacy of the science fiction series. ## Strategic Gameplay Evolution Since its 2016 launch, Star Trek: Ascendancy has allowed players to command iconic factions like the Federation, Klingons, and Romulans. The Final Frontier represents one of the most ambitious additions to the series to date. It introduces two entirely new ways to play, further diversifying the strategic options available to tabletop enthusiasts. ## Future Fulfillment Outlook While fulfillment is anticipated in late 2026, a firm retail release date has not yet been confirmed by Gale Force Nine. Fans should monitor official updates regarding shipping schedules as production concludes. The expansion marks a significant moment for the tabletop community, blending deep strategy with the enduring appeal of the Star Trek universe. ## Sources covering this story - https://screenrant.com/star-trek-ascendancy-final-frontier-release-psa/ — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
