Heat-Pressed Artificial Wood Furniture Series
Tact Inoue's MOCKY series pushes the boundaries of artificial wood.
1The Potential of Artificial Wood
Tact Inoue's MOCKY furniture series explores the structural and formal possibilities of artificial wood. Instead of traditional joinery techniques, heat and pressure are used to melt and fuse the material, creating organic-shaped joints and irregular connections.
2Material Composition
The furniture in the MOCKY series is made from artificial wood composed of wood flour and resin. While commonly used for decking, its heat and pressure-moldable properties offer a new approach to furniture design.
3Production Process
Artificial wood components are heated using hot plates or heat guns and then pressed together manually. This process integrates material behavior into the design, going beyond traditional woodworking techniques.
4Organic Shapes
The furniture in the MOCKY series is characterized by warped surfaces, irregular joints, and organic distortions. These irregularities stem from the material's behavior in its softened state, making each piece unique.
5Breaking Away from Traditional Techniques
The project focuses on melting and fusing the material instead of using traditional techniques like mortise-and-tenon joints. This approach introduces a new aesthetic and functionality in furniture design.
6Material-Centric Design
The MOCKY series treats artificial wood not as an alternative to natural timber but as a material with its own unique properties. This highlights the importance of material behavior in furniture design.
