Veronica Mishaan Reimagines a Storied 6,250-Square-Foot Bogotá Penthouse
The Colombian interior designer blends multi-generational heritage with bespoke contemporary materiality.
1Artistic Foundations and Leadership
Veronica Mishaan transitioned from quantitative economics and painting to lead Veronica Mishaan Design House. After sixteen years of practicing across New York, Bogotá, and Bermuda, her firm executed a major residential overhaul in Colombia. Her process treats interiors as canvases, balancing architectural geometry, proportions, and bespoke craftsmanship.
2Preserving Thirty-Year Family History
The 6,250-square-foot Bogotá penthouse remained in the client's family for over thirty years. Rather than erasing generational memories, the renovation reconfigures existing layouts while relocating storied furniture. Key heirlooms, such as a primary bedroom desk previously positioned in the living room, anchor the family narrative.
3Framing the Andean Landscape
Surrounding views of the Andes Mountains directly dictated interior material palettes and spatial orientation. Mishaan integrated earth tones, sage green millwork, honey oak flooring, and natural marmorino plaster walls to reflect regional geography. Botanical motifs and Phillip Jeffries blossom wallcoverings further establish an organic indoor-outdoor connection.
4Architectural Interventions and Circulation
Spatial circulation received structural updates, including custom tinted wide-plank oak flooring and smooth plaster walls. The vertical core features a prominent cast bronze staircase railing cast from actual tree branches. Lighting combines architectural recessed fixtures with decorative elements, such as an Elsa Foulon porcelain pendant.
5Curation of Prominent Art
The apartment's design integrates significant private art collections, including works by Peter Halley, Sophia Vari, Pedro Ruiz, and Larraz. In the main living room, Halley's artwork anchors a circular conversation layout featuring Lee Jofa wool upholstery, marble tables, and a sculptural cast-bronze water lily table.
6Private Suite Material Exploration
The relocated primary suite incorporates navy wallcoverings, paisley wool bedding, and Kelly Wearstler bouclé seating. The adjacent bath features pink marble flooring that transitions vertically into blue-and-white waterjet marble. An adjoining dressing area includes mirrored walls, Pierre Frey velvet upholstery, and a custom parchment-wrapped vanity.
7Monochromatic Texture in Workspaces
The home office and family spaces showcase saturated palettes, utilizing deep blue lacquered paneling that extends across ceilings. Mishaan juxtaposed Stark leopard carpeting with dark blue grasscloth walls, printed linen drapery, and antique Aubusson rugs. These intensive textures balance functional storage with comfortable residential utility.
8Integration of Colombian Artisans
Custom furniture, bronze hardware, and architectural millwork were manufactured across artisan workshops in Colombia. Engaging domestic fabricators anchored modern custom pieces to regional manufacturing traditions. This operational model demonstrates how high-end interior architecture sustains local craft ecosystems while meeting complex, bespoke residential project requirements.
