1Project Key Features

Designed by Ricardo Azevedo Arquitecto, Linha House spans 6803 square feet. Completed in 2025, the project is located in Braga, Portugal. Built on an ordinary urban lot, the house stands out with its minimalist design. The architects aimed to create both a house and a true home, following the client's brief. The structure transforms a mundane plot into an exceptional living space through thoughtful design.

2Design Approach

The project was realized on a flat, featureless ordinary plot. The design team turned this limitation into an opportunity by adopting a minimalist approach. Facing a car-friendly street within a hybrid and seemingly disordered urban landscape, the plot became the center of the design. In this context, the project developed a distinctive language while maintaining harmony with its surroundings.

3Spatial Organization

Linha House's spatial organization balances functionality and aesthetics. The design carefully considers indoor-outdoor relationships. The residence offers both privacy for its inhabitants and controlled interaction with the environment. Architects specifically designed the flow of space and light usage, transforming a monotonous plot into a characterful living space.

4Material Choices

Concrete was used as the primary material in the project. The design stands out with material simplicity, complemented by products from brands like Tom Dixon, A-emotional light, and ASM Taps. Working with local suppliers such as Paulo Neves and Top Marmi helped the project connect with the region. Material selections were made in harmony with the minimalist aesthetic.

5Technical Team and Collaborations

Fénix Engenharia Civil provided civil engineering, acoustic design, and thermal engineering services for the project. Lighting design and visual identity work were carried out by Ricardo Azevedo Arquitecto's team. A A R D é c o firm participated in interior design. This interdisciplinary collaboration strengthened the project's holistic approach.

6Photographic Presentation

Photographs by Ivo Tavares Studio highlight the project's architectural qualities. The images effectively document the spatial experience and material textures of the structure. The visual presentation showcases the power of minimalist design while revealing the building's dialogue with its environment. This documentation helped promote the project on international platforms.

7Urban Context

Linha House establishes a reference point in Braga's transforming urban fabric. Despite the irregular development around it, the project displays a consistent architectural language. The design successfully offers a pedestrian-scale experience despite the car-oriented street context. This approach serves as an inspiring example for similar urban contexts.

8Architectural Significance

Ricardo Azevedo's Linha House proves that high architectural quality is possible even on limited plots. The project demonstrates that original design can emerge from ordinary conditions. The structure, notable for its minimalist approach, successfully balances functionality and aesthetics. This project has been recorded as an important representative of contemporary Portuguese architecture.
