Crypto ETFs Face $152M Outflow as Institutional Selling Intensifies

Blackrock-led redemptions dominate as investors shift toward selective, defensive crypto asset positioning.

1Broad Institutional Selling Pressure

U.S. crypto ETFs experienced a significant downturn on Friday, recording total net outflows of $152.07 million. Bitcoin funds led the decline with $82.39 million in losses, while ether ETFs shed $69.68 million. This movement reflects a broader trend of institutional investors actively reducing their exposure across major digital assets throughout the week.

2Blackrock Funds Drive Redemptions

Blackrock’s IBIT was the primary driver of bitcoin outflows, accounting for $71.78 million in net exits. Similarly, the firm's ETHA product was responsible for the entirety of the $69.68 million ether outflow. These figures highlight how major institutional vehicles are currently serving as the primary channels for liquidating large-scale crypto positions.

3Bitcoin Liquidity Remains Active

Despite the $82.39 million Friday outflow, bitcoin ETF trading volume reached $2.66 billion, pushing weekly turnover above $10 billion. Net assets closed at $104.29 billion, indicating that investors are not exiting the market entirely. Instead, they are maintaining high activity levels while simultaneously adjusting their risk exposure to current market conditions.

4Ether Faces Sustained De-risking

Ether funds recorded approximately $320 million in net outflows over the five-day session. After a brief $24.84 million inflow on Tuesday, the asset returned to consistent redemptions for the remainder of the week. This pattern establishes ether as the primary focus of sustained institutional de-risking within the current crypto ETF market landscape.

5Solana Outflows Reach Ten Days

Solana ETFs recorded their tenth consecutive day of outflows, losing $12.67 million on Friday through Bitwise’s BSOL. Total weekly exits for the asset reached approximately $25.5 million, with net assets declining to $1.62 billion. This trend suggests that institutional retreat from higher-beta crypto exposure intensified significantly as the trading week progressed.

6NEAR Protocol Shows Resilience

In contrast to the broader market selloff, Bitwise’s NRR attracted $2.61 million in fresh capital on Friday. This asset has repeatedly found buyers during sessions where larger categories faced heavy redemptions. The recent expansion of Near Protocol onto Solana via Sunrise provides immediate access to decentralized exchanges, potentially driving this unique investor interest.

7Altcoin Market Performance Weakens

Beyond major assets, XRP ETFs lost $2.47 million through Canary’s XRPC, while Zcash shed $1.22 million via Grayscale’s ZCSH. Zcash concluded a difficult week with net assets totaling $625.34 million. These movements underscore a widespread defensive positioning across various digital asset classes as investors demand stronger justifications for maintaining their current risk profiles.

8Future Institutional Demand Outlook

While bitcoin retains enough liquidity to generate sharp rebounds, these bursts have struggled to hold. The market is shifting toward a more selective environment where capital is not disappearing but is being redeployed with greater caution. Future performance will depend on whether active ETF trading can translate into steadier, long-term institutional demand.
