Lionsgate Play Founder Launches Regional Streaming Platform Tiger TV
Tiger TV targets Hindi and Punjabi content niches with a distinct expansion roadmap.
1Regional Strategy Shift
Rohit Jain, founder and CEO of Lionsgate Play, is launching Tiger TV to pivot beyond Hollywood-centric catalogs. The platform focuses on Hindi and Punjabi content, aiming to generate ₹500 crore in annual recurring revenue within three years while serving regional viewers and the global Indian diaspora.
2Pricing And Production Pipeline
Within India and existing Asian territories, Tiger TV will function inside the Lionsgate Play app under a separate annual subscription of ₹799. The venture commits ₹500 crore to intellectual property over three years, targeting a release cadence of one new show or movie each week.
3Global Expansion Architecture
Outside Asia, Tiger TV will launch as a standalone application across key diaspora territories, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Management plans to enter 50 global target markets over time, while integrating with existing Lionsgate Play platforms across Southeast and South Asia.
4Genre Counter-Programming
Tiger TV acts as an alter ego to Lionsgate Play's thriller and crime identity by prioritizing comedy, romance, and mass-market drama. Initial slates include political drama Laal Salaam, Arshad Warsi-led Jeevan Ya Bheema Con?, and JAR Pictures web production Daanav, avoiding head-on rivalry with streaming giants.
5Aggregator Distribution Channels
To counter direct-to-consumer discovery friction, Tiger TV is partnering with major aggregation ecosystems, including Prime Video Channels and YouTube Primetime Channels. Bundling addresses high customer acquisition costs in competitive digital environments, ensuring reach across established paying video consumers without relying purely on standalone app installations.
6India Paid OTT Dynamics
Consulting firm Ormax estimates India's streaming universe at 664.9 million people, representing 45% of the population. Active paid subscriptions reached 172.6 million, marking a 16% expansion from 148.2 million. This subscriber base increasingly relies on telecom bundles and aggregator platforms to access premium libraries.
7Rise Of Hyper-Local Platforms
Specialized regional streaming services continue to multiply across language clusters, illustrated by recent ventures like Abhijat Marathi and proposed state-backed Tamil and Kannada platforms. These players bypass mainstream competition by catering to specific cultural narratives, providing targeted inventory for local advertisers and small-and-medium enterprise sponsors.
8Monetization And Retention Outlook
Regional streaming models benefit from lower production expenses and dedicated audience communities compared to national Hindi or international programming. Long-term platform viability will hinge on sustaining content discovery, negotiating favorable telecom distribution partnerships, and maintaining broadcast-grade production quality to prevent high churn across international diaspora segments.
