1Partnership details

Kraken and MEXC have partnered to facilitate the migration of Dutch clients to Kraken's platform. MEXC will refer both spot and derivatives trading clients to Kraken as part of its regional strategy shift that includes winding down Netherlands operations. Both companies will provide transition support to ensure smooth migration for affected users, minimizing service disruption during the process.

2Kraken's regulatory edge

Kraken has held MiCA authorization through Ireland's Central Bank (CBI) since June 2025, complemented by CySEC's MiFID authorization for derivatives and CBI's e-money license. This gives Kraken one of the most comprehensive regulatory footprints among European crypto platforms. The company is among the few platforms authorized under both MiCA and MiFID frameworks simultaneously.

3Client offerings

Migrating clients gain access to a single licensed platform offering 600+ crypto assets, tokenized equities, and perpetual futures contracts. The platform provides EUR fiat rails and publishes quarterly independent Proof of Reserves verifications. Kraken's infrastructure serves EEA clients with a comprehensive suite of crypto services under strong regulatory oversight.

4Industry consolidation

Kraken Co-CEO Arjun Sethi noted markets are consolidating toward fewer platforms offering more services. He predicts many EU platforms will either exit or restrict services, concentrating liquidity on remaining compliant venues. Kraken built its multi-product, multi-asset group structure anticipating this shift, securing multiple regulatory authorizations early.

5MEXC's transition plan

Robert MacDonald, MEXC's Chief Compliance Officer, emphasized minimizing client disruption during the transition. Partnering with Kraken provides Dutch users with an established alternative as MEXC adjusts its market presence. The company remains committed to supporting users throughout the migration process while realigning its regional service availability.

6Tokenized equities notice

Kraken's tokenized equities are synthetic assets tracking underlying stock prices, not conferring direct ownership rights. xStocks products are issued by Jersey-based Backed Assets and offered through Bermuda-licensed Payward Digital Solutions. These products are unavailable to U.S. persons or within the United States, with geographic restrictions applying to various jurisdictions.

7European crypto regulations

MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation) establishes a comprehensive EU framework for crypto asset markets, while MiFID regulates investment services for financial instruments. Kraken's dual compliance provides significant competitive advantage in European crypto services. Regulatory alignment proves crucial for consumer protection and market stability as the industry matures.

8Industry significance

This partnership exemplifies the consolidation trend in Europe's crypto markets. Increasing regulatory requirements are expected to drive smaller players out, concentrating liquidity on large, compliant platforms. Kraken's multi-license structure and broad asset coverage support its ambition to become a leading European crypto platform amid tightening regulations.
