Ethereum Exchange Reserves Hit Decade Low Amid Institutional Outflows
Declining exchange supply meets record ETF withdrawals as Ethereum faces a critical price decision.
1Decade-Low Exchange Reserves
Ethereum reserves on tracked exchanges have plummeted to approximately 14.5 million ETH as of November 2, reaching levels not observed since 2016. This represents a massive 58.6% decline from the 2020 peak of 35 million tokens. Such a significant reduction indicates that investors are increasingly moving their assets into private, long-term cold storage wallets.
2Binance Reserve Contraction
Binance, a major liquidity hub, reflects this broader trend with its reserves falling to 3.08 million ETH. This figure marks a 37.1% drop from its 2025 peak of 4.9 million tokens. Currently, Binance holds roughly 21.2% of total exchange reserves, while the remaining 11.42 million ETH are distributed across various other global trading platforms.
3Impact on Selling Pressure
The sharp decline in exchange-held supply suggests that there is significantly less ETH readily available for immediate spot selling. While lower reserves do not guarantee an automatic price increase, they effectively reduce the immediate sell-side pressure. Consequently, any surge in buying demand could now exert a much stronger upward impact on the asset's price.
4Technical Analysis and Targets
Analyst Crypto Patel identifies the current $2,245 price level as a critical decision zone for Ethereum. The preferred accumulation range sits between $1,800 and $1,900, where a Bullish Order Block and Fair Value Gap overlap. Long-term price targets are ambitious, ranging from $2,700 up to a potential peak of $10,000 if market conditions align.
5Institutional ETF Outflows
Despite the supply shock, institutional sentiment remains negative as US spot Ethereum ETFs recorded their worst month since inception. Investors withdrew $1.61 billion in October, surpassing the previous record of $1.42 billion set last November. These outflows highlight a clear disconnect between retail supply trends and the current institutional appetite for Ethereum products.
6Limited Inflow Days
October proved exceptionally difficult for Ethereum ETFs, with net inflows occurring on only three specific days. October 13, 21, and 23 saw modest inflows of $24.84 million, $14.96 million, and $4.35 million respectively. These figures were insufficient to offset the massive selling pressure, which continued into November with $139.8 million withdrawn on the second.
7Market Liquidity Dynamics
The current market environment is defined by a tug-of-war between shrinking exchange liquidity and persistent institutional selling. While the reduction in exchange supply creates a potential for a supply-side squeeze, the consistent ETF outflows act as a persistent anchor. Investors are waiting for a liquidity sweep and clear bullish confirmation before committing capital.
8Strategic Outlook for ETH
Ethereum is currently at a crossroads where supply scarcity meets institutional hesitation. The reduction in exchange reserves provides a foundation for potential appreciation, but the lack of institutional buying remains a significant hurdle. Market participants should monitor the $1,800 support level closely to see if the bullish order block holds against ongoing outflows.
