Logitech Expands Global Manufacturing Footprint into India
Swiss tech major initiates local device assembly in Manesar to enhance supply agility.
1Seventh Global Manufacturing Base
Logitech has officially launched device assembly operations in Manesar, Gurugram, establishing India as its seventh global manufacturing footprint. Partnering with local contract manufacturers, the Swiss-American company aims to diversify its production base beyond China. Initial assembly focuses on personal work solutions, specifically computer mice and webcams.
2Market-Driven Supply Chain Agility
The expansion strategy is primarily designed to serve India's domestic B2B and B2C channels while reducing transportation lead times. Supply chain chief Sree Chenincherry noted that setting up local capabilities enhances agility and lessens exposure to foreign trade duties, while laying groundwork for potential future exports.
3R&D Synergy in Chennai
Local manufacturing complements Logitech's existing research and development center in Chennai, which employs over 500 professionals. Initially focused on software and quality control, the Chennai hub now handles data analytics, hardware engineering, and firmware customization for enterprise clients, including Global Capability Centers operating across the Indian market.
4Transferring Global Standards
Rather than relying on simple transactional outsourcing, Logitech is investing in deep technical knowledge transfer with its Indian contract partners. Chief operations executives emphasized that local facilities must rigorously align testing procedures, molding processes, and quality controls with the brand's stringent worldwide hardware production benchmarks.
5Sustainable Material Integration
Over 80 percent of Logitech's personal workspace solutions are manufactured using recycled plastic alongside low-carbon aluminum and recyclable packaging. Integrating these post-consumer materials requires specialized adjustments to Indian partner molding lines, supporting the company's broader sustainability objective to halve global carbon emissions by FY30.
6Capitalizing on Domestic Ecosystems
Logitech's manufacturing rollout aligns with India's expanding electronics sector, which now hosts around 300 high-tech facilities backed by government incentives. Company leadership plans to leverage existing manufacturing ecosystems built by domestic smartphone makers, transitioning gradually from basic final-stage device assembly into deeper local component sourcing.
7Peripherals for AI Workflows
The production push coincides with the rapid integration of artificial intelligence into workplace hardware. Executives highlighted that personal workspace peripherals are evolving into primary physical interfaces for digital AI agents. Hardware devices effectively serve as sensory input extensions for voice, vision, and command execution across corporate workflows.
8Dominance in Growth Segments
India represents a strategic expansion zone where Logitech commands over 40 percent market share in mid-to-high-end computer peripherals and 75 percent in webcams. Expanding domestic production capacity directly addresses surging demand driven by corporate IT infrastructure investments, enterprise digital transformations, and rapid-delivery consumer retail channels.
