1Challenging site constraints

The Anir Guest House occupies an 800 m² trapezoidal plot measuring just 11x25 meters in Semarang's dense Tembalang district. Tamara Wibowo Architects transformed this irregular urban footprint through precise massing that responds to both spatial limitations and the need for communal living spaces. The design turns site constraints into architectural opportunities, creating layered social areas within tight parameters.

2Innovative spatial organization

The project rethinks traditional women-only boarding houses through carefully calibrated spatial efficiency. Porous surfaces and jagged massing define the architectural language, allowing natural light and ventilation while maintaining privacy. This approach demonstrates how compact urban developments can achieve both functionality and atmospheric quality through intentional design decisions.

3Material selection strategy

Key manufacturers including Alcona, Carta Laminates, and Dulux contributed materials to the project. The material palette balances durability with aesthetic considerations suitable for high-traffic communal living environments. PT. Geo Green Envirotama served as general contractor, executing the complex geometry with precision.

4Team composition

Lead architect Tamara Wibowo directed a compact team including senior architect Berda Karendra Putra and junior architect Farrij Tri Annafiu. This structure allowed for focused design development while maintaining responsiveness to the project's specific urban context and user needs.

5Photographic documentation

Ernest Theofilus captured the completed project, highlighting how the architectural language of jagged forms creates dynamic light patterns throughout the day. The photographs reveal how the design mediates between private and communal spaces while maintaining visual coherence across its irregular footprint.

6Contextual responsiveness

Located in a dense residential area, the guest house demonstrates how architecture can create oases of calm within urban environments. The design's porosity allows visual connections while maintaining necessary privacy for its women-only user base, setting a new standard for this building typology.

7Construction timeline

Scheduled for completion in 2025, the project shows how thoughtful design can overcome challenging site conditions within reasonable construction timelines. The trapezoidal plot's transformation into functional living space demonstrates efficient project execution without compromising design integrity.

8Typology innovation

Anir Guest House represents a significant evolution in women-only boarding house design, proving that spatial constraints can inspire rather than limit architectural creativity. Its success may influence future high-density residential projects seeking to balance communal needs with individual privacy in urban contexts.
