Jun Matcha Club Cafe was realized by transforming an old garage in Jakarta's Panglima Polim neighborhood. The project spans 33 square meters and was completed in 2026. Designed by Matter of Something, the cafe offers a slower, more contemplative spatial experience centered around the ritual of preparing matcha.

2Design Philosophy

These principles are blended with Indonesian craftsmanship and locally sourced materials, resulting in a modern aesthetic. The project aims to create a simple yet functional space with a minimalist approach.

3Material Selection

The cafe design primarily uses local materials, including wood. Products from brands like Anjati, Banana Paper, and Enigma Art Textile were chosen. These materials provide a warm and natural atmosphere while supporting a sustainable design philosophy.

4Spatial Experience

Jun Matcha Club offers visitors the opportunity to observe and experience the matcha preparation process. The space is designed with an open and airy layout, allowing natural light to flood in. This design encourages visitors to spend more time in the cafe.

5Team and Collaboration

The project was led by Steven Sundjaja and Kamilah Aisyi of Matter of Something. The design team included Safina Pratiwi and Alfath Alvaran. General contracting was handled by PT. Niha Creative and Innovation.

6Lighting Design

The cafe's lighting design was executed by Hello Good Nite. The lighting supports the minimalist aesthetic of the space. A balanced use of natural and artificial light creates a warm and inviting atmosphere.

7Environmental Impact

Jun Matcha Club stands out as an environmentally conscious project through its use of local materials and sustainable design principles. The project contributes to Jakarta's growing cafe culture while reinterpreting the matcha ritual with a modern approach.

8Conclusion and Significance
