1Strategic Global Footprint Expansion

Bank of Baroda is actively evaluating international expansion plans to build upon its current overseas business growth. The lender aims to target wholesale banking in developed economies while focusing on retail banking within emerging markets. Specific target geographies and implementation timelines remain under assessment by the bank's leadership team currently.

2Existing International Network Scale

The bank currently operates approximately 35 direct branches and 45 offices through various overseas subsidiaries. Its global presence spans major financial hubs including London, New York, Dubai, and Singapore. These operations primarily support cross-border trade, Indian corporate clients, and non-resident Indians across diverse regions like Australia, Africa, and Mauritius.

3Robust Growth in International Advances

As of September 30, international advances reached ₹3.25 trillion, marking a 40% year-on-year increase. International deposits also grew by 15% to reach ₹2.62 trillion. This international segment now accounts for 16-17% of the bank's total global business, which has surpassed the significant milestone of ₹32.5 trillion in total value.

4Foreign Currency Deposit Mobilization

The bank successfully mobilized approximately $9.18 billion in foreign currency deposits to bolster its overseas funding sources. This includes $8.08 billion via the Reserve Bank of India’s FCNR(B) window and $1.1 billion through other channels. These deposits provide essential liquidity and support the bank's broader international lending and operational strategies.

5Margin Improvement and Interest Income

Management expects net interest margins to improve during the December quarter as higher lending rates take full effect. With 38% of the loan book linked to repo rates, the bank anticipates a significant uptick in interest income. The guidance for net interest margins remains steady at 2.75-2.95% for fiscal year 2027.

6Shift Toward Retail-Centric Lending

The bank is aggressively shifting its loan mix toward retail, agriculture, and MSME segments, collectively known as RAM. This segment now comprises 64.2% of total advances, up from 56% three years ago. The portfolio consistently delivers 18-20% year-on-year growth, supporting the bank's goal of retailizing its overall balance sheet structure.

7Capital Raising and Asset Quality

To support growth, the bank plans to raise ₹6,000 crore through Tier-I and Tier-II bonds this fiscal year. Additionally, it targets raising ₹8,500 crore via equity issuance by FY28. The institution maintains a slippage ratio of 1-1.25% and targets annual recoveries exceeding ₹10,000 crore to ensure sustained asset quality.

8Cybersecurity and Technology Investment

Following a recent incident involving limited customer information, the bank is intensifying its cybersecurity and technology investments. It typically allocates 10% of operating profit toward these areas. The bank is currently collaborating with external experts and government agencies to strengthen its core architecture and enhance capabilities through Baroda Sun Technologies.
