First look: Samsung's Gentle Monster and Warby Parker smart glasses
Meet the Android XR-powered intelligent eyewear
1Samsung's wearable tech move
At the Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung drew attention not only with foldable phones but also with smart glasses. Developed in collaboration with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, these glasses offer Android XR platform and Google Gemini support. Users can access various functions hands-free.
2Tech specs and hardware
The glasses run on Qualcomm's Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 processor. Built-in cameras enable real-time translation, navigation, and notification summaries. Devices controllable via touch-sensitive temples and voice commands also feature video recording and photo capture.
3Gentle Monster design
The model produced in collaboration with Gentle Monster has a distinctive 'cat-eye' oval shape. While appearing normal from a distance, thick temples and front-facing cameras with LED indicators reveal these aren't ordinary sunglasses. The carrying case doubles as a charging unit.
4Warby Parker model
The Warby Parker design offers a look similar to Ray-Ban Meta glasses. Both models have a sturdy build, though their surfaces are prone to fingerprint smudges. Carrying cases can provide up to seven full charges for the glasses.
5User experience
Designed without internal displays, the glasses don't clutter the field of view. Users interact via built-in speakers and Google Gemini assistant. With cameras analyzing the surroundings, the device offers practical features for everyday use.
6Market expectations
Samsung's Intelligent Eyewear series, with undisclosed pricing and launch date, could be a significant step in the wearable tech market. Particularly notable for AR and AI integration, these glasses aim to capture consumer interest with their innovative approach.
