Despite Penta's immediate request to delete the footage, clips spread virally, breaching sacred lucha libre protocols where masks symbolize wrestlers' identities. ## The Sacred Mask Tradition In Mexican lucha libre culture, masks represent a wrestler's legacy. Penta has never appeared unmasked in his decade-long career, a tradition WWE honored by booking his title defense against El Hijo del Vikingo at a Mexico City AAA event earlier this year. ## Access Control Breakdown WPE failed to enforce backstage recording restrictions for influencer N3ON. Compounding the error, event staff reportedly told Penta he could remove his mask in the same area where N3ON had streaming clearance—a catastrophic policy collision for lucha libre purists. ## Fallout and Reactions N3ON called it a misunderstanding and apologized, but WWE banned him from future recordings. At Saturday Night's Main Event, fans booed the streamer mercilessly. Meanwhile, Penta's SummerSlam match against Chad Gable proceeds unchanged despite the controversy. ## Legal Ramifications N3ON claims Penta's team is pursuing legal action, though WWE and the champion remain silent. The streamer's WWE filming privileges are permanently revoked. This mirrors past incidents where unauthorized unmaskings led to lawsuits in Mexican wrestling. ## The Influencer Access Dilemma WWE's celebrity-driven era clashes with cultural preservation. As legends like Rey Mysterio guarded their masks religiously, this incident forces a reevaluation of influencer access—balancing viral content against tradition's sanctity in sports entertainment. ## Sources covering this story - https://www.forbes.com/sites/brianmazique/2026/07/23/penta-and-n3on-wwe-fanatics-fest-controversy-explained/ — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
