Emerging in the late 1990s, these spaces functioned as essential social hubs for urban youth. This new design elevates the concept beyond a simple internet café into a sophisticated, high-performance gaming lounge for modern users. ## Design Specifications and Scope Spanning 407 square meters, the project was led by architects Hyoju Kim and Yonghyun Kwon. The design team, including Wehyun Kim, focused on creating an immersive environment. Engineering consulting was provided by Saturday.engineering, ensuring the technical infrastructure supports the high-performance gaming equipment required for this specific, uniquely Korean commercial interior typology. ## Materiality and Structural Composition The interior design utilizes a deliberate palette of wood, glass, and steel to define the space. These materials were selected to balance the high-tech requirements of gaming hardware with a welcoming aesthetic. The structural choices reflect a modern approach to coworking and gaming interiors, prioritizing both durability and a refined visual identity. ## Integrated Service Delivery Model A core feature of the Shift PC Suyu office is the seamless integration of independent food and beverage services. Unlike standard internet cafes, this facility delivers meals directly to users' seats. This operational model maintains the gaming flow while providing a comprehensive hospitality experience within the high-speed digital environment of Seoul. ## Cultural Context of Gaming Hubs In South Korea, the PC Bang remains a critical social infrastructure for youth culture. Friends gather here not just for high-speed internet access, but for the communal experience of gaming and dining. RVMN’s design acknowledges this legacy while upgrading the physical environment to meet contemporary expectations for comfort and technological performance. ## Technical Infrastructure and Performance The facility is engineered to support intensive gaming sessions through high-performance equipment and robust connectivity. By prioritizing technical stability alongside interior design, the project addresses the specific needs of the gaming community. The collaboration with Saturday.engineering highlights the necessity of specialized technical consulting in modern, high-density commercial gaming interior projects. ## Urban Impact in Suyu Located in Suyu, Seoul, the project serves as a contemporary anchor for the local urban youth demographic. By professionalizing the gaming lounge experience, RVMN creates a space that bridges the gap between traditional social hubs and modern coworking aesthetics. This shift reflects broader trends in Korean commercial interior design and hospitality. ## Future of Gaming Spaces The completion of Shift PC Suyu in 2026 marks a significant milestone in the evolution of gaming-centric architecture. By blending high-speed technology with refined material design, the project sets a new standard for social gaming lounges. It demonstrates how traditional cultural spaces can successfully adapt to meet the demands of modern users. ## Sources covering this story - https://www.archdaily.com/1186432/shift-pc-suyu-office-rvmn — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
