Apple Reportedly Upgrading MacBook Neo with More RAM
Budget-friendly laptop to feature new processor and color options in upcoming refresh.
1MacBook Neo Refresh in Development
Apple is preparing an updated version of its affordable MacBook Neo with A19 Pro chip and 12GB RAM, replacing the current A18 Pro. The new processor, also used in iPhone 17 Pro models, promises significant multitasking performance improvements for the budget laptop lineup.
2Potential Price Increase Expected
Component shortages will likely drive up the Neo's price, following Apple's recent price hikes across most products. Rumors suggest the company might discontinue the entry-level 256GB configuration, further increasing the starting price for the refreshed model.
3OLED MacBooks on the Horizon
Bloomberg reports Apple plans OLED screens for iMacs (last updated in 2024) alongside long-rumored M6 MacBook Pro and touchscreen OLED MacBooks expected late 2026/early 2027. A redesigned 14-inch base MacBook Pro with M7 chip is also slated for next year.
4Design and Color Variants
The MacBook Neo may debut with new color options, continuing Apple's product diversification strategy. This move appears targeted at younger demographics, building on the success of colorful iPhone and iPad finishes in attracting style-conscious consumers.
5Hardware Strategy Evolution
Apple's transition to using iPhone-derived chips in MacBooks reaches new heights with the A19 Pro adoption. This ARM-based approach enhances energy efficiency while maintaining performance, further validating the company's silicon unification strategy across devices.
6Market Positioning
The Neo series remains Apple's most aggressive play in the budget segment. With upgraded specs bridging the gap to premium models, it continues to appeal to education users and entry-level professionals. Despite potential price increases, it's expected to maintain strong competitiveness against Windows alternatives.
