Céline Dion Joins Metallica Fans at Las Vegas Sphere Residency
The iconic singer was filmed playing air bass during a Metallica concert in Las Vegas.
1Unexpected Metal Fan
Canadian superstar Céline Dion surprised fans by enthusiastically rocking out at a Metallica concert. On November 5, she attended the band’s Life Burns Faster residency at the Las Vegas Sphere. Footage captured her mimicking bassist Robert Trujillo’s techniques during an instrumental jam, showcasing a side of her musical taste rarely seen.
2The Viral Moment
The moment occurred during the band’s customary Kirk and Rob Doodle segment, where guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo perform together. Fan-filmed footage shared on Instagram shows Dion standing in a suite, mimicking bass-playing techniques. The setlist for that evening reportedly included instrumental tracks titled Motown Yo Town and Copenhagen.
3Star-Studded Suite
Dion was not the only high-profile musician enjoying the performance from the suite. Reports indicate that Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash was present, alongside members of the band No Doubt. This gathering of diverse musical icons highlights the broad appeal of Metallica’s residency, which attracts peers from across the industry.
4Longtime Metal Appreciation
Dion’s interest in heavy metal is not entirely new. Earlier this year, she shared a personal playlist featuring Metallica’s 1996 single Until It Sleeps. She previously noted that her son Eddy is a fan of the band, and she even attempted an impression of frontman James Hetfield in a past video.
5Residency Context
Metallica’s Life Burns Faster residency at the Sphere launched on October 1, utilizing the venue's unique capabilities. The band follows a No Repeat Weekend format, offering different setlists across paired Thursday and Saturday shows. This residency concludes its 2026 portion on November 7, with performances scheduled to resume in January 2027.
6Dion's Recent Return
This appearance follows a significant year for Dion, who returned to full-length concerts in September after a six-year absence. She previously announced a diagnosis of stiff-person syndrome in 2022, a rare neurological disorder that impacted her ability to perform. She successfully completed the first leg of her Paris comeback in October.
7Upcoming Tour Dates
Beyond the Las Vegas residency, Metallica maintains a busy schedule. The band has two upcoming concerts at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut later this month. Furthermore, they are planning another North American leg of their ongoing M72 world tour, which is currently scheduled to take place in May and June.
8Cultural Crossover Impact
Dion’s presence at the show underscores the intersection of pop and metal fandoms. While known for power ballads like My Heart Will Go On, her public support for Metallica bridges genres. Such moments highlight how major artists consume live music, reinforcing the communal nature of large-scale residencies like the Sphere.
