1Real-Time AI Trend Mapping

The platform provides an interactive heat map visualizing AI companies, models, and hardware currently gaining traction. It aggregates data from developer communities to determine which entities are most discussed. Bigger, centrally located nodes indicate higher attention levels, while connections represent co-occurrence within the same news stories or technical discussions.

2Data Aggregation and Sources

The tool tracks articles from the last 30 days, accessible via a scrollable archive grouped by source. A red counter indicates new articles discovered within the last hour. Users can filter by specific sources on the left panel to isolate stories, with headlines opening directly in new browser tabs.

3Heat Calculation and Weighting

Heat is assigned to entities based on mentions, weighted by source credibility and popularity metrics. Specifically, the system incorporates Hacker News points, Hugging Face upvotes, and GitHub stars to quantify influence. This ensures that the map reflects genuine engagement rather than just raw volume of mentions across various industry platforms.

4Temporal Decay and Windows

The map utilizes a 24-hour half-life for the weekly view, ensuring the data reflects the last few days of a seven-day window. For the 'Today' view, the system applies a six-hour half-life, comparing current activity against the previous six-hour period to highlight immediate shifts in the AI landscape.

5Identifying Breaking AI News

Entities marked as 'Breaking' feature orange names and pulsing rings, indicating they received at least two stories and 2.5 times more attention in the last six hours compared to the prior period. This mechanism allows users to quickly identify rapidly emerging trends or sudden spikes in interest within the sector.

6Visual Indicators and Trends

New entities are identified by orange rings, while arrows indicate heat fluctuations. An upward arrow signifies heat is at least 1.5 times higher than 24 hours ago, whereas a downward arrow indicates cooling interest. Topics are represented as diamonds, with the hottest topic filled in orange and its closest connections outlined.

7Technical Implementation Details

The project was built independently and is not affiliated with any of the companies displayed on the map. It draws inspiration from the AI MAP project by carlwow. The graph rendering is powered by the D3 library, which is distributed under the ISC licence, ensuring a robust and open-source visualization framework.

8Strategic Utility for Professionals

By synthesizing disparate data points from GitHub, Hugging Face, and news outlets, the tool serves as a high-level dashboard for monitoring the AI ecosystem. It allows professionals to filter noise and focus on entities with significant momentum, providing a clear, visual representation of where the industry's collective attention is currently directed.
