A Scandinavian-inspired modern family home on Washington's coastline
1Architecture Integrated with Nature
Dyes Inlet House was designed with high-performance strategies to harmonize with its waterfront location on Washington's Kitsap Peninsula. Reinterpreting Scandinavian farmhouse forms, the design creates a spacious and functional environment for an extended family while establishing a strong connection with the natural surroundings.
2Energy Efficiency Focus
The 4,546 sq ft main house with a guest house was developed with an energy-efficient approach. Optimized for long-term use, the home combines comfort and sustainability through aging-in-place design principles, setting new standards for residential performance.
3Architectural Team and Process
Designed by SHED Architecture Design with Prentis Hale as lead architect, the project benefited from engineering consultancy by Todd Perbix and Positive Energy. Completed in 2025 by Joe Gates Construction, the house showcases innovative residential design solutions.
4Interior Spaces and Details
The project stands out with SHED Architecture Design's interior solutions. Spaces dominated by natural materials maximize daylight through extensive glazing while strengthening visual connections to the waterfront landscape, creating harmonious living environments.
5Contribution to Regional Architecture
Located in Silverdale, the structure offers a modern interpretation of the area's architectural identity. The design incorporates specific solutions for its waterfront location, featuring durable material selections adapted to local climate conditions and coastal living requirements.
6Future of Residential Design
Dyes Inlet House illuminates the future of housing with its sustainable design addressing multi-generational living needs. This nature-harmonious, energy-efficient and long-lasting project aims to set new benchmarks in modern architecture, redefining standards for performance homes.
