Google Further Buries Search Results Under AI Mode
Search results are now even more hidden under AI summaries.
1Google's New AI Summaries
Google has started automatically expanding AI summaries for some search queries. This change pushes traditional search results further down the page. Users now see a full AI Overview at the top instead of a 'Show more' button. This summary is followed by an 'Ask anything' box, which may require more scrolling.
2Criteria for AI Summaries
Google's criteria for automatically expanding AI summaries are not fully known. Some test searches show expanded summaries, while others only display the initial part. For example, the query 'What is the best game on Switch 2?' consistently shows expanded summaries, but this is not consistent across browsers.
3User Experience
Google spokesperson Jennifer Kutz stated that dynamically expanding AI summaries make search more helpful for users. Research shows that this dynamic experience encourages deeper exploration. Additionally, expansion is canceled if users start scrolling, ensuring they don't lose their reading position.
4Impact of AI Summaries
The automatic expansion of AI summaries changes how users access search results. This may make traditional links less visible. However, Google claims this change allows users to explore more deeply.
5Technological Advancements
Google's automatic expansion of AI summaries highlights the growing role of technology in search engines. This development serves as an important example of how AI shapes user experience. AI summaries could enable faster access to information.
6User Feedback
Google is considering user feedback on the expansion of AI summaries. Kutz noted that this dynamic experience makes search more helpful. However, some users may be concerned about the reduced visibility of traditional links.
7Future Developments
Google's automatic expansion of AI summaries points to future developments in search engines. Further advancements in this technology could make accessing information even easier. However, concerns about the visibility of traditional links persist.
8Conclusion and Importance
Google's automatic expansion of AI summaries significantly alters search engine usage. This change facilitates access to information while reducing the visibility of traditional links. This situation serves as an important example of how technology shapes user experience.
