1Unified Multiomic Software Environment

Illumina launched the BioInsight Platform on October 14, 2026, creating a single workspace for multiomic data analysis. The environment merges Illumina applications, purpose-built AI models, and curated datasets behind a single sign-on. This architecture eliminates the friction of managing fragmented informatics tools across shifting scientific workflows.

2Purpose-Built Genomic Foundation Models

Through the BioInsight AI Lab, researchers access models trained specifically for variant effect prediction and prioritization. The suite includes SpliceAI2, a specialized model introduced on October 8, 2026, for rare disease research. These biological foundation models assist researchers in prioritizing meaningful signals across massive genomic cohorts.

3Biopharma Cellular Mechanism Mapping

The platform incorporates the Billion Cell Atlas program to support translational research. This initiative links proprietary single-cell multiomic data with biopharmaceutical partners. By correlating complex genetic signals with underlying cellular mechanisms, biopharma organizations can streamline target discovery and better understand complex disease biology mechanisms.

4CPU Deployment for DRAGEN v4.6

Included within the release is DRAGEN v4.6 secondary-analysis software featuring a pure software mode. This update allows institutions to deploy the pipeline across standard CPU environments and supported public clouds. Consequently, organizations can maintain analytical consistency while satisfying strict data residency and infrastructure requirements.

5Parkinson Research at Global Scale

The Global Parkinson’s Genetics Program utilizes DRAGEN software mode across roughly 170 active research projects. Conducted with Aligning Science Across Parkinson’s and The Michael J. Fox Foundation, the initiative relies on cloud processing to accelerate cohort analysis, bypassing computational infrastructure bottlenecks to prioritize genetic discovery.

6Harmonized Cross-Study Data Catalog

The BioInsight Data component transforms public and proprietary datasets into an annotated, reusable catalog across oncology, rare diseases, and population health. These regularly updated resources enable cross-study contextualization. Scientists can validate genetic hypotheses against harmonized evidence without having to manually clean heterogeneous external data.

7Consolidated Portfolio and Credit Billing

The platform unifies DRAGEN, Emedgene, Connected Multiomics, Platform Core, BaseSpace, and BioInsight Data. Traditional annual software subscriptions are replaced by usage-based BioInsight Credits. This commercial model permits research teams to consume analytical capacity dynamically and test emerging algorithmic tools without committing to inflexible long-term contracts.

8Strategic Alignment for Drug Discovery

Illumina established the BioInsight division on October 1, 2025, led by Rami Mehio, to bridge sequencing output with biological interpretation. Chief executive Jacob Thaysen positioned the initiative to support pharmaceutical drug target development, marking Illumina's strategic pivot from pure sequencing hardware toward integrated discovery informatics.
