The device is currently available for pre-order through the company website. It is designed specifically for children, moving away from repurposed adult technology to provide a secure communication tool that balances parental control with the child's need for independence. ## Restricted Connectivity Features The device intentionally excludes open internet access, social media platforms, and downloadable games to ensure a safe environment. By removing these common digital distractions, the hardware focuses entirely on secure voice and video communication. This design choice addresses growing parental concerns regarding unfiltered online exposure while maintaining essential connectivity for family safety. ## Communication and Tracking Capabilities The watch includes dual cameras for one-tap video switching, HD voice calling, and real-time GPS tracking. Parents can access location history and utilize a dedicated SOS emergency function. This emergency feature automatically transmits the child's precise location and a seven-second audio recording to designated contacts, ensuring rapid response during critical situations. ## Management via Mobile App All administrative functions, including contact lists, communication permissions, and location settings, are centralized within the SafeOwl mobile application. This structure gives parents complete oversight of the device's capabilities. By managing the watch remotely, parents can enforce boundaries such as the scheduled School Mode, which limits device usage during specific learning hours. ## Hardware Durability and Power Engineered for active children, the OWLY 1 features a durable design with 2 ATM water resistance. The battery is optimized for longevity, providing up to two days of usage on a single charge. These specifications ensure the device remains functional throughout daily activities without requiring constant recharging or protection from minor water exposure. ## Customizable Safety Parameters The device incorporates customizable Safe Zones, allowing parents to define geographic boundaries for their children. When a child enters or exits these pre-set areas, the system provides updates to the mobile app. Additionally, the inclusion of step counting encourages physical activity, integrating health monitoring into the core safety-focused feature set of the watch. ## Founding Families Testing Program SafeOwl has launched the First 100 Founding Families Program to gather real-world usage data. This initiative invites families to test the device in everyday settings and provide direct feedback to the development team. Such insights are intended to guide future product iterations and the refinement of existing software features for the brand. ## Strategic Market Positioning CEO Danny Sit emphasizes that the product aims to bridge the gap between child independence and parental peace of mind. By focusing on a niche market of parents seeking restricted technology, SafeOwl differentiates itself from general-purpose wearables. The success of this strategy will depend on user adoption and the effectiveness of their app-based controls. ## Sources covering this story - https://phandroid.com/2026/11/02/safeowls-owly-1-is-a-kid-safe-smartwatch-without-internet-connectivity/ — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
