Paraiso Remodel: Innovative Design by Austin Sandy Architects
A 1960s house transformed into a modern family home.
1Project Initiation
The Paraiso Remodel transformed an old ranch house in Danville's hilly neighborhood into a modern family home. The original T-shaped structure with a 1960s addition had become dark and fragmented over the years. The new owners decided to collaborate with Austin Sandy Architects to address these issues.
2Design Approach
Austin Sandy Architects preserved the original T-shaped structure while transforming the house into a light-filled space. Large windows and an open-plan design allowed natural light to flood the interiors. This approach gave the home a modern yet warm atmosphere.
3Architectural Details
The project covers an area of 2700 square feet. The interior design was handled by EKR Design, with ASD Woodworks as the general contractor. Structural consulting was provided by USE. This collaboration ensured the project's successful completion.
4Material Selection
The project combined modern and natural materials. The use of wood and glass created a warm yet contemporary look. This material choice also helped the house blend seamlessly with its surroundings.
5Interior Design
The interiors are open and airy. Large windows allow natural light to pour in, while the open-plan design enhances connectivity among family members. This design created a space suitable for modern living.
6Harmony with the Environment
The project was designed to harmonize with its surroundings. Large windows bring the hilly landscape indoors, while natural materials ensure the house integrates with its environment. This approach made the house more than just a structure—it became a living space.
7Completion Process
The project was completed in 2025. The process progressed smoothly thanks to close collaboration among architects, contractors, and designers. This teamwork ensured the project was completed on time and within budget.
8Outcome and Impact
The Paraiso Remodel turned an old ranch house into a modern family home, showcasing architectural innovation. This project can inspire the renovation of similar homes. Austin Sandy Architects' successful work once again demonstrates the power of architectural design.
