The 11-unit building cascading down Telegraph Hill is now for sale for the first time in decades. ## Apartment Witness to a Stormy Relationship Unit 42 became the couple's home during their remarried year in 1940 after divorcing in 1939. While Rivera worked on his 'Pan American Unity' mural here, Kahlo completed her famous 'Self Portrait, Dedicated to Dr. Eloesser'. ## Architectural Gem with Unique Features The staircase-shaped complex boasts bay-view picture windows, hardwood floors, and colorful tiled bathrooms. Next door stands another architectural masterpiece - the 1939 Sidney Kahn House by Richard Neutra. ## Artists' Magnet: The Unbeatable View Residents prioritize dramatic views over convenience in these sub-950 sq ft units with no parking. Lower unit dwellers must climb stairs to street level, but expansive waterfront decks make up for these quirks. ## Piece of City History As Planning Chief Dan Sider noted, 'They don't build like this anymore'. The building represents both San Francisco's cultural heritage and evolving construction safety standards. ## Collector's Rare Opportunity Priced at $8 million, this fully tenant-occupied building offers immense architectural and art historical value. It presents a unique investment and cultural preservation opportunity for its next owner. ## Sources covering this story - https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/frida-kahlo-and-diego-riveras-cliffside-apartment-building-lists — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
