1Project Scope

Feliza Bursztyn School is an 8,835-square-meter educational complex designed to integrate with Bogotá's urban fabric. Completed in 2024 by AR-AR (Martínez Arquitectura), the project aims to create public spaces harmonious with neighborhood dynamics. Local firms like Fiallo Atelier and MEC Arquitectura contributed to the design team. The school represents a thoughtful approach to educational infrastructure in urban contexts.

2Architectural Approach

The design philosophy bridges urban context with natural landscape. Brick serves as the primary material, creating a peaceful educational environment amidst the city's density. Architects envisioned the school not just as an educational facility but as a public space enhancing social interaction. The project demonstrates how architecture can mediate between built and natural environments.

3Design Team

Lead architect Carlos Alberto Martínez Valencia founded the Bogotá-based firm AR-AR. Local architects including Jesús Alfonso Fiallo Arango from Fiallo Atelier and Manuela Eble Cárdenas from MEC Arquitectura contributed. The team is pioneering educational architecture in Colombia, blending international standards with local context. Their collaborative approach resulted in this innovative learning environment.

4Spatial Organization

Spread across 8,835 square meters, the school integrates educational units for different age groups. Open and closed learning spaces complement shared social areas. The layout supports both academic and social development, as documented in photographs by Teodoro Posada. The design carefully considers circulation patterns and visual connections between spaces.

5Material Selection

Brick dominates as the primary construction material, with emphasis on sustainable and local resources. Material choices respond to Bogotá's climate conditions, prioritizing energy efficiency and durability. This approach minimizes the building's environmental footprint while creating warm, textured surfaces. The material palette reflects Colombia's architectural traditions with contemporary execution.

6Urban Impact

The school functions as public space within its neighborhood. Design establishes visual and physical connections with surrounding green areas. Beyond educational infrastructure, the project serves as a model for urban transformation initiatives. It strengthens Bogotá's social fabric through thoughtful placemaking, demonstrating architecture's role in community building.

7Technical Details

Featured internationally on platforms like ArchDaily, the project reflects current trends in educational architecture. Published in 2026 with ISSN 0719-8884, it represents Colombian architecture globally. The design sets benchmarks for urban integration in school projects. Its documentation provides valuable insights for architects working in similar contexts.

8Pioneering Educational Architecture

Feliza Bursztyn School challenges conventional school design paradigms. It demonstrates how learning spaces can become more inclusive and environmentally responsive. Contributing to Bogotá's architectural identity, it stands as a significant example of contemporary educational architecture in Latin America. The project redefines relationships between education and public space through innovative design.
