Microsoft Finally Overhauls Windows Search
Local file and app searches take priority in the new update.
1The New Face of Windows Search
Microsoft is working on a major update that transforms the Windows search experience. Users will encounter a clean interface instead of ad-filled recommendations. Local files and applications will be prioritized in results.
2Speed and Accuracy Focus
The new search system will deliver faster results and be more tolerant of typos. Even if users misspell application names, relevant results will still appear. Additional information like file type and modification date will be displayed.
3Redesigned Results Page
Search results will be presented in a more organized layout. The left side features expanded results, while the right side shows previews of selected items. More prominent buttons for basic actions like 'Open' have been added.
4Optional Web Results
Web search results will continue to appear below local results, but promoted content won't dominate the top positions. Users will have the option to completely disable web and Microsoft Store suggestions in settings.
5Stability Promises
Microsoft claims the new search system will reduce crashes and freezing issues. However, the real performance of these promises will become clear when the update reaches general availability.
6Increased User Control
New options in Windows Settings allow users to fully personalize their search experience. These changes could transform the fate of Windows Search, which has faced criticism for years.
