1Project Introduction

Arte Abierto Baja is a new public art gallery opening in Los Cabos. Designed by Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos at Ánima Village, the 180-square-meter open-air gallery brings together works by Mexican and international artists with the natural landscape of Baja California Sur. Scheduled for completion in 2025, the project aims to make a significant contribution to the region's cultural life.

2Architectural Details

The project extensively uses concrete materials. The gallery features an organic design language that harmonizes with surrounding natural forms. Lighting design is by Artec, while landscape architecture is handled by PAAR. The structure offers visitors the opportunity to experience both artworks and the environment's natural beauty simultaneously.

3Team and Collaborations

Javier Sordo Madaleno Bringas, Javier Sordo Madaleno de Haro, and Fernando Sordo Madaleno de Haro served as lead architects. Engineering coordination was managed by Daniel Jaimes and Krystyna Sokolowska, with structural engineering by Silos y Asociados. Electrical engineering was designed by UG21, and mechanical systems by CYVSA/DYPRO.

4Regional Impacts

The opening of Arte Abierto represents a significant step in enhancing Los Cabos' cultural tourism potential. The gallery aims to become an attraction for both local residents and international art enthusiasts. By strengthening the region's art infrastructure, the project will contribute to economic and social development.

5Design Philosophy

Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos adopted an approach that blurs boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces. The open-air concept emphasizes the interaction between art and natural surroundings. This design aims to offer visitors a different art perception compared to traditional gallery experiences.

6Technical Infrastructure

Specialist systems in the gallery were designed by Insecom. Lighting was planned to ensure artworks remain impressive at night. Wayfinding and street furniture were handled by Polvora Design, while landscape arrangement was undertaken by PAAR. The project developer is registered as SOMA.

7Art and Community

Arte Abierto aims to bring art to public spaces, reaching wider audiences. The gallery provides visibility for local artists on international platforms while creating cultural interaction spaces for residents. This approach seeks to contribute to the democratization of art.

8Architectural Legacy

The project represents the latest example of Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos' contributions to Mexico's cultural architecture. Like the firm's previous works, Arte Abierto establishes a strong connection between modern design and local context. This gallery will make a significant contribution to the region's architectural identity.
