HP OmniBook Ultra 14: Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Performance Revolution
Paul Thurrott confirms the superiority of Qualcomm's ARM-based chip.
1The Superiority of Qualcomm Snapdragon X2
Paul Thurrott highlights the superiority of Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 compute platform over its x86 competitors. The HP OmniBook Ultra 14 stands out as an almost flawless laptop running Windows 11 on ARM. This combination demonstrates the harmony of hardware and software, delivering a superior user experience.
2Performance and Battery Life
Thurrott praises the HP OmniBook Ultra 14 for its performance and battery life. The device's silent operation is also noteworthy; despite having a fan, Thurrott mentions he never heard it engage. This once again proves the energy efficiency of ARM-based chips.
3Intel and the x86 Platform Falling Behind
Thurrott points out that Intel and the x86 platform are now lagging behind, recalling Apple's switch to ARM six years ago. He notes that the Windows world is catching up, emphasizing that choosing Qualcomm's ARM chips for work laptops is a smart move.
4Design and Color Options
The HP OmniBook Ultra 14 offers a blue-gray color called Stone Blue in its Snapdragon X2 version. The keyboard keys are harmonized with darker gray tones. Intel models come in Eclipse Gray and Silk Sand. Thurrott particularly appreciates the device's minimal and stylish design.
5Display Quality and Upgrade Options
Thurrott criticizes the device's default display for its low resolution and 300 nits brightness. However, he mentions that upgrading the display can offer a better experience. This provides users with customization options based on their needs.
6A View from the Mac World
As a Mac user, Thurrott finds the HP OmniBook Ultra 14's case design awkward and ungainly. However, this remains a minor detail compared to the advantages offered by ARM-based chips. Thurrott's criticisms do not overshadow the device's overall performance.
7Snapdragon X2 Elite and Copilot+PC
Thurrott specifically highlights the 'Snapdragon X2 Elite / Copilot+PC' label on the palm rest. This label stands out as a detail supporting the device's premium and stylish design. Minimalism and quality are felt in every corner of the device.
8ARM Chips and the Future
Thurrott's review points to the future dominance of ARM-based chips. While Intel may remain in the gaming market for a while, ARM chips are becoming a necessity for work laptops. The HP OmniBook Ultra 14 is a concrete example of this shift.
