Tapbots has released Pastebot 3, offering advanced clipboard management and automation tools for Mac. Pastebot can manage various formats of copied content, including text, images, PDFs, URLs, and HTML. The app supports up to 1,500 clippings and features fast search, customizable keyboard shortcuts, list and detail views, and iCloud sync across multiple Macs.
2Deep Automation Tools
Pastebot 3 stands out with its deep automation tools. The update adds MCP support, making it an excellent tool for use with Claude or ChatGPT/Codex. It also includes a new CLI that can be used from Terminal or integrated into scripts. Commands include browsing clipboard history, filtering results, retrieving full text of clippings, and extracting images.
3Shortcut Actions and Filters
Tapbots offers nine actions for automation with Shortcuts, featuring various parameters and filter options. New filters allow transforming clippings using text transformations and shell scripts. You can preview how a filter will affect a clipping and assign keyboard shortcuts to filters, combining them to chain actions together.
4Productivity Boost with Stacks
Pastebot includes a powerful productivity booster called Stacks. This feature allows selecting multiple items and adding them to a Stack, then pasting them in a specific order. It's ideal for filling out forms or copying data between spreadsheets. Items are numbered in the order they will be pasted using a keyboard shortcut.
5Modernized Design
Pastebot 3's design has been modernized while remaining recognizable to long-time users. It features a new icon, toolbars, and a more customizable sidebar. The sidebar allows rearranging items within each section and collapsing sections for a streamlined look.
6Flexibility with Smart Pastebins
Pastebot 3 introduces Smart Pastebins, customizable collections of saved clippings. Smart Pastebins can be created by combining up to nine criteria, offering great flexibility. For example, a Smart Pastebin can be set up to look for 'http' at the beginning of a clipping. Smart Pastebins also support regex for text matching.
7Lack of iOS and iPadOS Versions
The biggest drawback of Pastebot 3 is the absence of iPhone and iPad versions. Pastebot started on the iPhone but moved to a Mac-only version a decade ago. Many users hope Pastebot will return to iOS and iPadOS. Apps like Paste and PastePal have shown the benefits of syncing clipboard history to an iPhone or iPad.
8Pricing and Availability
Pastebot 3 is currently available directly from Tapbots for $39, which includes one year of updates. An additional year of updates can be purchased for $19 at any time. Tapbots plans to offer Pastebot 3 on the Mac App Store as a subscription with a 14-day free trial, followed by $2.99/month or $24.99/year. The app is currently under review by Apple.
