It combines retro design with modern elements like a 120Hz refresh rate and a MediaTek Dimensity 8300 chip. The device also includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, appealing to users seeking a blend of old and new. ## Spec Upgrades The final version of the Communicator boasts 12GB of RAM, up from the initially announced 8GB. Its battery capacity has increased to 4,350mAh, supporting over 800 charge cycles. The device runs Android 17 out of the box, with software support extending to Android 20 and five years of security updates. ## Keyboard Features The physical keyboard is more than just buttons; it’s touch-sensitive, allowing users to swipe for navigation. The spacebar doubles as a fingerprint sensor, and the keyboard supports multiple layouts, including QWERTY, AZERTY, QWERTZ, Korean, and Arabic. This versatility caters to a global audience. ## Camera and Processor The Communicator opts for simplicity with a 50MP rear camera and a 24MP front-facing camera, avoiding the multi-lens arrays common in flagship devices. Its MediaTek Dimensity 8300 chip is a step below top-tier processors, positioning it as a secondary device rather than a primary smartphone. ## Target Audience Clicks markets the Communicator as a second phone, ideal for messaging and calls rather than heavy app usage. Its squareish aspect ratio may not suit all Android apps, reinforcing its niche appeal. The device targets users seeking a break from endless scrolling and modern smartphone complexities. ## Price Increase While pre-orders are available at the original $499 price, the Communicator will cost $649 starting October 1. This hike pushes the device into a higher price bracket, potentially limiting its appeal as a novelty-infused secondary phone. ## Pre-order Options Reservation holders can customize their Communicator, choosing colors, keyboard layouts, and charging covers. The company’s website offers detailed configuration options, allowing users to personalize their device before the December shipment. ## Market Positioning The Clicks Communicator carves a unique niche by blending nostalgia with modern functionality. While it avoids direct competition with flagship smartphones, its success hinges on capturing the interest of users seeking a simpler, more tactile mobile experience. ## Sources covering this story - https://www.engadget.com/2262962/clicks-communicator-shipments-begin-in-december/ — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
