It combines sofa, bed, and storage functions in one piece. The detachable pouffe section can transform into a chaise lounge, additional seating, or coffee table. When launched in the UK, it quickly became one of the best-selling products in its category, proving its market appeal. ## Initial color scheme criticism Initially offered in bright orange and dark gray, the color options received mixed reactions. Interior designers and consumers felt these hues wouldn't blend well with most decors and would quickly look dated. The vibrant orange particularly was seen as too bold, limiting its appeal to specific interior styles. This color choice potentially narrowed the product's target audience upon its initial release. ## 2026's color of the year: Sage green IKEA's relaunch features the trendy sage green color. Interior designer Melissa Hutley describes this shade as soft and versatile for home use. Furniture expert Shelley Cochrane emphasizes sage green's timeless quality, making it ideal for large furniture pieces. The lighter green tones are noted for bringing nature indoors and creating calming spaces that serve as neutral backdrops for various decor styles. ## Customer feedback highlights The LINDÅKRA has garnered increasing 5-star reviews on IKEA's website. Users particularly praise its suitability for small spaces, with one reviewer stating, 'The storage is brilliant and the movable parts are genius.' The generous sleeping area also receives consistent positive mentions. This feedback confirms the product's successful design approach addressing urban living challenges. ## Strong contender for market leadership With its new color, the LINDÅKRA presents serious competition to the best sofa beds and chair beds available. Having become one of IKEA's most popular sofa beds since its launch two years ago, experts agree its modular design and functionality position it for long-term success. The product's ability to evolve with trends while maintaining core functionality demonstrates IKEA's understanding of market demands. ## Competitive alternatives analysis While alternatives like John Lewis's striped chair bed or Habitat's Roma chair bed exist, none match the LINDÅKRA's functionality level. Darlings of Chelsea's Bromley sofa bed offers luxury at a higher price point, while Next's Palma sofa bed provides a similar color alternative. However, IKEA maintains a clear price-performance advantage, making the LINDÅKRA the most balanced option in the market. ## Alignment with design trends IKEA's move demonstrates its ability to track shifting consumer preferences. Recent years have seen growing demand for practical small-space solutions and natural color palettes. By combining functional design with current color trends, IKEA successfully addresses these dual demands. This strategy particularly resonates with younger, urban-dwelling consumers who prioritize both style and practicality in compact living situations. ## Setting new industry standards The LINDÅKRA's success underscores the importance of multifunctionality and smart design in home furniture. Storage solutions and transformable furniture are increasingly sought after by urban dwellers. IKEA's product sets a new industry benchmark through its price-performance ratio, forcing competitors to develop similar solutions. This evolution reflects broader changes in how people furnish smaller living spaces without compromising on style or functionality. ## Sources covering this story - https://www.idealhome.co.uk/all-rooms/sofas/ikea-lindakra-sofa-bed-grey-green-launch — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
