Google Releases Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 for Pixel Devices
The new update brings security enhancements and bug fixes.
1Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 Released
Google has released the Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 update for Pixel devices ranging from the Pixel 6a to the Pixel 10 series. The update, launched on August 14, 2026, includes security patches and bug fixes. The Pixel 11 series is not yet receiving this update as these devices are still in pre-order.
2Security Enhancements
The update introduces new security restrictions to protect against programmatic call forwarding fraud. Measures such as API restrictions and system confirmations enhance user security. Specifically, the sendUssdRequest() API is no longer accessible with just the CALL_PHONE permission.
3Bug Fixes
The update resolves issues with visual corruption and unexpected device restarts when opening the notification shade and Quick Settings menu. Additionally, it fixes false battery capacity degradation warnings displayed by the Device Health and Support tool.
4Beta Program and OTA Images
The best way to get the update is through the Android Beta Program. OTA images are also available for users who prefer manual installation. The update supports x86 (64-bit) and ARM (v8-A) emulators.
5API Restrictions
With the update, standard apps attempting to execute call forwarding codes in the background will be blocked and receive a USSD_ERROR_NOT_ALLOWED callback. This aims to prevent social engineering scams.
6System Confirmation
Users manually dialing call forwarding codes in the system dialer will now see a new OS-level confirmation dialog before the command is executed. This helps protect users against fraud.
7Affected Applications
If your application is affected by these changes, ensure it handles the USSD_ERROR_NOT_ALLOWED failure callback gracefully. For apps requiring call forwarding setup, it is recommended to use the ACTION_DIAL intent to allow user manual confirmation.
8Importance of the Update
This update ensures Pixel users can operate their devices more securely and smoothly. Security enhancements and bug fixes improve the user experience. The update is easily accessible through the Android Beta Program.
