The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra succeeds last year's Fold 7, featuring a new wide-fold design. While carrying premium price tags, these devices offer subtle improvements that could significantly enhance daily usage experiences. ## Design and Display Innovations The Z Fold 8 Ultra boasts a thinner profile than the Fold 7. Enhanced unfolding mechanics and anti-reflective coating improve usability. The 8-inch foldable AMOLED display shines with 3000 nits brightness and matte finish, while the visible crease has been significantly reduced. ## Durability and Water Resistance Both models carry IP48 ratings, offering 30-minute water resistance but limited protection against dust particles smaller than 1mm. While trailing Chinese competitors in this aspect, they provide sufficient durability for everyday use. ## Performance and Processing Power The new Ultra model features Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. With improved thermal management and up to 16GB RAM option, it promises superior performance. Storage options remain at 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB configurations. ## Battery Life Breakthrough Samsung's first implementation of silicon-carbon anode technology increases battery capacity from 4400mAh to 5000mAh. The addition of 45W fast charging complements this upgrade. While maintaining Qi wireless charging, magnetic accessory compatibility requires a separate case. ## Camera and Software Features The main camera retains 200MP resolution while the ultrawide sensor upgrades from 12MP to 50MP. 8K video recording with new APV codec support caters to professional creators. Shipping with Android 17 and One UI 9, the device supports all Galaxy AI features. ## User Experience Differences Key distinctions between the two models focus on areas directly impacting daily use: screen brightness, ease of unfolding, and battery endurance. The Z Fold 8 Ultra particularly excels in outdoor visibility and all-day battery performance. ## Final Verdict The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra sets new standards in the foldable phone segment. While the Fold 7 remains a capable alternative, the Ultra's refinements offer significant advantages for power users. Considering price-performance ratios, a discounted Fold 7 could still be a sensible choice for some buyers. ## Sources covering this story - https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-8-ultra-vs-z-fold-7-improved-battery-screen-and-a-higher-price/ — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
