Apple introduced its first smart display alongside custom accessories created with LG and Schneider.

1Dedicated Smart Display Debut

Apple hosted its unstreamed Welcome Home event on October 13, unveiling seven smart home devices. The centerpiece is HomeView, a brand-new $299 stationary smart display designed to manage home automation. The unit directly challenges market rivals Amazon and Google by acting as a central control panel for connected living spaces.

2Custom Silicon and Assistant

HomeView features Apple's A18 processor with an estimated 8GB of RAM to run Apple Intelligence features locally. The hardware brings generative AI-powered Siri to smart home panels for the first time. This updated assistant processes multi-app user queries, automates tasks via voice commands, and syncs conversations across registered Apple devices.

3Facial Recognition Interface

The HomeView display integrates a front-facing camera capable of recognizing up to six family members. It dynamically adjusts the interface to show individual app preferences, personal calendars, or tailored entertainment. Apple prevents cross-user data exposure by ensuring personal messages and private notifications remain hidden from other household members.

4Form Factors and Availability

Apple designed two distinct form factors for HomeView: a countertop version on a rounded speaker base and a wall-mounted alternative. Countertop models arrive in space grey, silver, starlight, and rose pink, while wall units offer two finishes. Pre-orders open October 15, followed by official store availability on November 13.

5Collaborative Hardware Collection

Alongside HomeView, Apple unveiled the Apple Home Collection, co-developed with industrial partners LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. The accessory catalog includes security cameras, temperature sensors, smart locks, thermostats, and video doorbells. These devices pair instantly through an iPhone single-tap workflow, eliminating the need for separate third-party companion apps.

6Advanced Security Camera Lineup

LG developed four dedicated Home Collection monitoring cameras that deliver up to 2.5K video resolution. The cameras identify people, familiar faces, vehicles, pets, and delivered packages. Footage records securely to existing iCloud+ plans without extra camera subscriptions, while outdoor variants integrate adaptive floodlights and low-light color night vision.

7Dual-Camera Video Doorbell

The collection introduces LG's specialized Video Doorbell featuring dual camera sensors. A 2.5K top sensor captures visitors while a full HD bottom sensor monitors ground-level parcel deliveries. The unit features an integrated spotlight, and chime notifications route instantly through connected Apple devices, including HomeView panels and HomePod mini speakers.

8Climate Control Integration

Schneider Electric contributed smart climate hardware, including a connected Smart Thermostat and wireless temperature sensors. The energy-focused accessories integrate directly into the Apple Home framework to optimize power consumption. Rollouts begin in December for primary accessories, while select items are scheduled to launch in early 2027.

9Zero-Knowledge Encryption Standard

Privacy serves as the core architectural pillar for the Apple Home Collection. All device telemetry, sensor data, and video feeds maintain end-to-end encryption within the Apple Home framework. Apple explicitly stated that neither LG Electronics nor Schneider Electric can read user telemetry or access stored household data streams.

10Refreshed Streaming Box

Apple updated the Apple TV 4K with an A19 chip, providing 50% faster processing and double the graphics performance. The media box adds three far-field microphones for hands-free Siri AI commands. Furthermore, its redesigned remote includes Precision Finding tracking, allowing users to locate misplaced remotes via acoustic alerts.

11Acoustic Audio Upgrades

The $149 HomePod mini 2 launched with an Apple S10 processor that dynamically analyzes music in real time. Up to four units can link to a fourth-generation Apple TV 4K for home theater surround sound. The speaker also debuts Sound Glow, syncing top-mounted ambient lighting with active album art.

12Ecosystem Lock-In Strategy

While HomeView supports Matter and certified accessories, major competitors like Amazon's Ring platform remain excluded from full native integration. By combining first-party hardware, tight iCloud+ storage integration, and strict biometric privacy, Apple aims to consolidate fragmented smart homes into a cohesive, highly secure, and proprietary hardware ecosystem.
