1Rapid network expansion

IONNA's US fast-charging network has more than doubled to over 180 sites in 2026, making it the largest 400kW charging network in the country. The joint venture by eight major automakers including BMW, GM, and Toyota has particularly expanded through convenience store partnerships, adding 40 stations via Circle K locations where usage has doubled since takeover.

2Industry-leading satisfaction scores

In JD Power's 2026 public charging study, IONNA scored 807 out of 1000 points - the highest rating among competitors. This marks significant achievement for the first-year eligible network, outperforming Mercedes-Benz Charging Network (797) and Rivian Adventure Network (755), reflecting strong driver satisfaction during rapid expansion.

3Strategic convenience store partnerships

Circle K collaboration since April 2026 has been pivotal, with over 40 new charging stations deployed at their locations. These sites have seen usage double post-IONNA's operational takeover, demonstrating the value of high-traffic retail partnerships for EV charging accessibility and adoption rates.

4App-agnostic charging approach

Rather than developing proprietary apps, IONNA integrates with 19 existing platforms including new additions Presto, ChargeHub and EV Connect. This strategy reduces friction by leveraging drivers' existing app preferences while expanding payment options across manufacturer-branded solutions.

5Plug Charge technology rollout

IONNA is implementing Plug Charge vehicle identification tech, currently available for Volvo with Toyota/Lexus support coming in October. The system allows automatic charger recognition without app interaction, streamlining the charging process for supported vehicles across the network.

6Expanding manufacturer discounts

Hyundai and Mercedes-Benz owners now join BMW/GM drivers in receiving discounted charging through brand apps and Plug Charge. IONNA confirms all founding automakers will implement similar programs, creating manufacturer-specific incentives across the shared infrastructure.

7Driver Advisory Council formation

IONNA established a council featuring prominent EV reviewers Kyle Conner and Tom Moloughney to provide direct driver feedback. Their first task involves testing a new Driver's Dashboard that displays live session data via browser without requiring apps, logins or subscriptions.

8Long-term North American ambitions

IONNA aims to install 30,000 chargers across North America by 2030, building on its current industry-leading position. CEO Seth Cutler emphasizes their unique ability to combine scale with quality, challenging the traditional tradeoff perception in charging infrastructure development.
