Peak Design Enters Premium Charging Market With New Accessory Line
The brand expands its hardware portfolio with high-end chargers, batteries, and durable cables.
1Strategic Market Expansion
Peak Design is diversifying its hardware portfolio beyond bags and tripods by entering the competitive charging accessories market. CEO Peter Dering stated the company aims to improve everyday products through superior design choices. This move challenges established brands like Anker and Belkin by focusing on premium build materials and unique form factors.
2Qi2.3 Certified Battery
The new Kickstand Travel Battery, priced at $100, features a 5,000mAh capacity and is the first Qi2.3-certified wireless charger. Measuring 10.5mm thick, it provides 15W wireless charging while unplugged. The device supports both portrait and landscape mounting modes for phones equipped with MagSafe or PixelSnap compatibility, catering to mobile users on the move.
3Folding Charging Station
The 2-in-1 wireless charging station, constructed from die-cast aluminum and zinc, retails for $100. It includes two Qi 2.2 pads capable of 25W output each, plus a 5V USB-C port for smaller devices like smartwatches. Its foldable, flat-pack design offers a smaller footprint compared to existing multi-device chargers currently available on the market.
4Slim GaN Technology
Peak Design introduced the Dual Slim Charger, a $65 unit utilizing GaN technology to deliver 65W across two USB-C ports. Unlike standard cube-shaped chargers, this model features a slim profile of only half an inch in thickness. It also includes fold-flat prongs, specifically designed to enhance portability for travelers and daily commuters.
5Durable UltraStrand Cables
The company launched UltraStrand cables featuring high kink resistance and a lifetime guarantee. Prices start at $25 for 60W versions, with a $40 option supporting up to 240W for laptops and gaming consoles. Each cable includes an integrated clip to manage clutter, with available lengths ranging from 15cm to 2 meters.
6Design and Material Focus
Every product in the new lineup emphasizes premium build quality, moving away from the common plastic aesthetic found in mass-market chargers. By utilizing materials like die-cast aluminum and zinc, Peak Design aligns these accessories with its existing reputation for high-end, durable photography gear, targeting a demographic that values longevity and aesthetic consistency.
7Availability and Rollout
All new charging devices are currently available for order through the official Peak Design website and select retail partners. While initial orders are being processed now, the company has scheduled a broader global availability for mid-November. This phased rollout allows the brand to manage supply while building anticipation for the new hardware collection.
8Competitive Market Positioning
Entering a market dominated by high-volume manufacturers requires a clear value proposition centered on design and reliability. By offering a lifetime guarantee and unique features like Qi2.3 certification, Peak Design attempts to justify premium pricing. Success will depend on whether consumers perceive these functional improvements as worth the higher cost over competitors.
