A Tuscan-Inspired Home Offers Serenity in Los Angeles
This custom-built home in Tarzana blends European architecture with California living.
1A Dream Turned Reality
Edward Grigoryan and Lidan Sfadia sketched a dream two years ago, which has now become a 7,300-square-foot single-story home in Tarzana. Combining Craftsman and Tuscan architecture, the house centers around a courtyard. For Grigoryan, this project is a breathtaking reality.
2A Design Integrated with Nature
The home is surrounded by olive trees from Napa Valley and limestone walls draped in climbing vines. French iron doors, tumbled limestone floors, and 12-foot-high ceilings create an impressive entrance. This design aims to craft a serene atmosphere using natural materials.
3Central Courtyard and Zen Influence
The house revolves around a massive central courtyard, starting with a 35-foot bridge. A Bonsai tree, placed with a crane, turns the atrium into a Zen-like pause. This design offers tranquility and a space for reflection for the inhabitants.
4Interiors Adorned with Natural Materials
Hand-applied plaster creates a warm atmosphere with natural materials. The U-shaped layout separates private spaces from communal areas while maximizing natural light and views. The central garden pool blurs the line between architecture and landscape.
5Kitchen with Custom Details
The kitchen adjacent to the atrium features custom oak cabinetry, a La Cornue oven, and an island finished in Bonsai marble. This design creates a 'full circle moment' for Sfadia and Grigoryan. The kitchen is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
6Balance of Scale and Comfort
The home boasts dramatic proportions with 12-foot ceilings and 10-foot-tall windows, yet remains deeply livable. The family room’s floor-to-ceiling fireplace and RH Belgian linen sofas emphasize this balance, creating a harmonious living space.
7Private Living Spaces
The primary bedroom offers garden views and its own fireplace, providing a peaceful retreat. Furnished with Jenni Kayne linen bedding and Parachute Home linens, the room is completed with a Zara Home side table. This space creates a calm atmosphere with natural materials.
8The Result of a Dream
This home was designed to offer peace and serenity to its inhabitants. A couple relocating from Malibu purchased the house before it hit the market, turning this dream into reality. The home uniquely balances scale and livability.
